Bike insurance due for renewal so I had a phone call from the sales bod at Swinton bikes today asking me if I'm going to renew.

Now, last year I had nothing but hassle from them when they buggered up my payment, took too much money out the bank etc which took me 3 months to sort.

Told the salesman that I would probably not go with them because the service was crap but he could give me a quote anyway, and he then quoted me over twice the price I paid this year Shocked

Bye Bye Swinton bikes - How you stay in business is beyond me

Loads of them do that. I think they hope you wont notice the price double and just renew. The clincher for me is that you can then get a NEW quote at half the price online Laughing Laughing.

One of the resident Bikesure insurance company spies on here refused to acknowledge that they do this, much to my amusement.

Bikesure, Bikesure, Bikesure, Bikesure, Bikesure.

Wonder if they will pop in again Laughing .

I am with bikesure, gave me a renewal for much more than I paid the previous year, did some online quotes, found one much cheaper, phoned bikesure who then beat that quote and knocked the £30 admin fee on the head to

swinton are a bunch of dicks, got a quote from them and decided to purchase the next day. Went to check through everything before purchasing and they had boosted the excess from 250 to 750 !!!

Needless to say I told them were to go and went to wicked quotes Smile

This year Bennetts quoted me 100 quid on top of what i was paying them last year.
got a quote from Swinton and they wanted 300 quid less, with breakdown cover, then bennetts.

I was with swinton a few years back, I've never had any trouble with them.

My insurance is due end of June. I done the usual compare doofers and the best one I got was with Swinton. £93 for the year. I'm currently with Dial Direct so give it another few weeks and I'll call them and see if they can beat that.

I can't speak for all companies, but I know the reason of increased premium on some is due to losing the comparison site discount. Going through the likes of gocompare etc offer a heavy discount so they can be competitive however at renewal this discount is removed. Bet if you tried another comparison site it will be cheaper than your renewal quote more often than not.

They were cheapest for the last two years running by some distance, but this year they're suddenly way off the pace.

I was also patient enough to give them three attempts to improve on their quote when they incessantly rang me about my renewal. Even when I gave them a concrete quote they couldn't (wouldn't) match it, so I told them I was buying elsewhere.

Then they rang me a fourth time and I told them to go away.

I have a better one.

Sorted insurance on the gsxr out this evening, got quotes on gocompare, cheapest was Bennets. Cool.

Go through to Bennets to pay and it came up with the same price as gocompare - thats good I think, well then it asks if you have any modifications, out of interest I add from the drop down list: performance enhancing exhaust and also a double bubble screen. Get the new quote....... £50 cheaper Shocked

Re checked all the details..... all correct. Needless to say, I took the cheaper quote!

Bennetts - Made of win Karma

Its not just about price though - Service is equally important. Mrs Wife crashed her car last year and was insured with Sheila's Wheels. The claim was dealt with brilliantly and now we're customers for life, even if their price goes up.
Swinton gave me terrible service and were expensive, hence why i'd never consider them again even if they were 1/2 the price of others

I've not had much trouble with Swinton Bikes, other than that I've received ridiculous renewal quotes from them found a cheaper price (from Swinton) online, so I just renewed it that way at half the cost, and then sent them a copy of their own NCB from last year Rolling Eyes

But the car side ... twats.

I renewed the car policy once and had some small problem, so I phoned the local branch (Bethnal Green), and got some proper little upstart talking down to me in a dodgy Essex accent (he sounded like Hoffy!)

So I threw a bit of a strop, and he got a wee bit too smart with me, telling me that I *must* pay back some sort of cancellation admin fee that ran over 200 notes. I told him I wanted to speak to his supervisor, and he insisted there wan't one and that HE was the supervisor. So I said that I would ask the insurance ombudsman about it. He smugly gave me the impression that he thought I wouldn't have a clue how to do that - but as soon as the ombudsman's paperwork hit the post, Swinton Central were on the phone offering to revoke the cancellation fee forthwith.

Surprised, not.

I tried to get the little Johnny Big-Bollox Salesperson fired, but I don't think I succeeded. It was a classic case of cocky young salesperson thinking he could bully someone into submission and frighten them with vague legal threats.

Depends how you look at it. 20 quid in your pocket rather than not.
