Silly point, in my work car park today there is a CB400SF with L plates. Now this car park is behind a roller shutter so the guy must work in my building, and I assume is not on his DAS. I am right in thinking the only reason for something over 125 to have L's is if you are on a DAS and accompanied by an instructor.

I know on the channel island you can ride any sized bike with L's but i didn't think you could bring them over here. Plus it had a UK number plate.

That's the only reason you SHOULD have them attached..

But I don't believe there is any law that forbids the use of L plates
whilst holding a full licence.

The relevant law only covers that you must use L plates if you're learning

True.
I can borrow my kids bikes and leave their L plates on no problem (insurance covers any other bike).
If you think about it it'd cause hassle with driving instructors too.

Only reason I can think of a 400 with L plates is maybe just passed test and making others aware of inexperience (although there are green L plates for that too).

Thumbs Up

Probably right...but in my defense...

Sounds dodgy to me. Perhaps the bloke thinks that the police can't tell the difference between a 125 and a 400cc (true to some extent I'll warrant)?

Or maybe its restricted to learner bhp (is that even possible)? I too have seen a larger bike with Ls and been similarly confused.

I'd bear in mind that there are a lot of bikers out there, and a lot of thickos out there, and there's going to be some overap. The bloke has probably read some of the usual license gobshitery in RiDE, plus listened to some guy down the pub who was totally in the SAS and therefore knows everything about everything.

Anyway, no skin off of our noses, the MIB will take care of it if he does run over any kittens.

I sold a ZZR250 to a bloke that swore blind that he was allowed to ride a 250cc bike on L plates even though l tried to explain to him that the law was changed many years ago and learner can no longer ride 250cc bikes.

He did,nt listen and off he went after attaching stick on L plates, not my problem at the end of the day.
