This is undoubtedly a great piece of self indulged marketing by the insurance company who set up this petition, but let's be honest, it will benefit us riders in the long run if we all sign it.

heres a copy and paste from the website
Quote:
Motorcyclists Matter – to ensure that biker related questions are compulsory in the driving theory test

Responsible department: Department for Transport

In order to raise awareness of motorcyclists on Britain’s roads, Bennetts, the UK's No.1 Bike Insurance Specialist, is campaigning to ensure biker related questions are made compulsory in the driving theory test – who despite accounting for just 1% of road traffic, fall victim to over a fifth of all fatalities on the roads.
Did you know that motorists can currently pass without answering a single question relating to bikers? As many as 7,004 bikers and their pillions lost their lives between 1999 and 2010 and the biker casualty rate is currently a staggering 61 times greater than that of motorists. With questions currently selected at random, there is no guarantee that a question relating to the awareness of motorcyclists will arise in the current test format and this petition is set to challenge that.

Doubt it'd make a difference unless it was also part of the driving tests.

Theory is just one of those ;over and done with and never thought of again' things, seems to go out the window once people have passed
But let's not live with a nirvana fallacy, there will never be a perfect solution so every little helps

Oh, sorry guys. Didn't realize it was posted before.

Yeah, I believe that every little does help. And to be bluntly honest, I never, ever considered motorcyclists when I was driving my car. I never even looked for them, did not even come into my mind to consider them on the road either. When I did my CBT I was amazed and quite appalled about my inconsiderate manner towards riders.

Ever since the first time I rode a bike, I have always said that potential drivers must take a CBT in order to progress to their driving test. Without a shadow of a doubt.

an easy way is for car manufacturers to include something in car dash boards like a blinking light with a motorcycle that triggers when going below say 10mph so it catches thier attention and reminds cagers to check for bikes
