Hey so, my chain came off yesterday.
Luckily for me I was crawling along, readying to turn into a car-park. Shifted down a gear, gave it a gentle tug on the throttle, felt a slight grab and then nothing. So, I figured it was in a false neutral, so I tried again, and was greeted by a rev and no reaction.
So, pulled over, found my chain laying on the floor still on my bike somewhat; and the splitlink was nowhere to be found!

Well, I had a new tyre put on not long back; and the chain was fine up until now so a family member said that the garage might have taken the chain off to change the tyre, and whipped the chain back on and not done it up properly;

However, I pushed the bike to a close-by garage (I was with mates anyway, so,) and for £25 in cash he put the chain back on and put a soft-link where the split-link had been. And he said, "The problem with split-links on anything bigger than a 250, is they never last very long. Especially on something with a bit of power," So.. Not sure where to go with that.

You got fucking shafted. £25??? Also, they should be fine on any bike. I've only ever had 1 ping off, but i've also had a rivet link fail.

Split links are link £2.50, buy some and carry them with you you don;t need any tools to fit them and it would have taken me minutes to fit it.

I'd use a rivet link, but I would feel somewhat butt raped if I had to pay £25 for the privilege.

Yeah.
It was a pretty hefty sum; but it was that or push the bike home and order a new link. So, yeah. Sad

Gunna have to have a look for the tool used to put the soft-links/rivit links on.
