Trust me, you won't need to practice that sort of stuff.
The swerve, isn't even a 'swerve'. Simply just a slight turn to the right/left.
Wish people would stop stressing over this and for the DSA to bloody reword that term.
The only things that are worth practicing, are the u-turn, slalom and figure of eight.
Thats what I did in an Asda/B&Q car park before my mod 1 and I managed to pass.
Everything else will just come naturally.
If you're that worried about it, get some training, but it's not really necessary.
It only costs £15. You fail? So what? You've just got first hand experience of the actual test, which is better value for money than any sort of training would be.
Just go for it! |

No, you don't. You really don't.
If you're even a halfway competent rider, you'll have no problems with mod 1. It's all trivial or near trivial. Don't put a foot down during the u-turn, don't stamp on the rear brake in the emergency stop, job done.
The u-turn is the only part that you might not already 'practise' on a regular basis. Use 2 car parking bays down at your local supermarket, if you can do that, you'll have no problem at all in the test. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

Swerve is the only real issue, and thats easily practiced using those half speed bumps. Down the road at 35mph and swerve from right near the kerb to the gap in the middle. Success? Do it at 40. Sucess? You wont have any problems...Get on the power before the last blue cone and hold it flat out in 2nd to make the speed. Failed first time twice by not doing this
Look left, look right and shoulder check before you move ANYWHERE on foot, on bike whatever. Starting the second you get through the gate...
For the u turn look over your shoulder and keep looking up the road as you turn. Picked up a minor first attempt for this.
1 minor for going through the speed check at 49kph. Other than that a clean pass on attempt two - and that was in the wet ____________________ Please be aware that the above post may be full of complete nonsense.

I agree with what has previously been said. I never specifically practiced for my mod 1. I literally just turned up on the day and did it. Any even half competent rider on a functional machine should be able to piss it. Just remember lifesavers and good behaviour at all times- even before you enter the testing area. You'll find the examiner will be very helpful and will explain the layout to you as many times as you ask him/her to. It's not rocket science and they operate on the assumption that you have no previous knowledge of the test layout etc.
Good luck ____________________ Passed A2 licence 19th Dec '14. |
