Hi All,

I am asking pretty much the opposite question of all of this nature. I am interested in buying a '93 TZR 125 to take a test on, i heard that all UK imports of these bikes were restricted to the 12.5 BHP limit, yet the one i am interested in has been de-restricted, I was wondering how easy and/or expensive it would be to fully restrict it again so that its under the BHP limit. As I'm completely new to this I may be talking rubbish.

Thanks

Smile Andy

The DSA list it as an A2 vehicle with no note to require restriction, so there should be no problem using it for your test.

Is there any record of it being de-restricted? If not, then the chances of anyone finding out or caring is pretty minimal.

If it really bothers you, then I'd suggest that you get in touch with your local dyno place and ask for their advice. Presumably (if you care) you'd want to get it dynod anyway to have some assurance and (sort of) evidence that whatever restriction you do fit actually works?

Note that the current "learner motorcycle" limit is 11kW or about 14.6bhp.

Nice looking bikes those.

I think you are right about the restriction because I seem to remember them kicking out around 26 bhp, so maybe UK models were resticted.

As said already - who will know...

If it is truely derestricted then it probably means that the power valve servo is connected up to a controller. Just unplug the control box with the PV half open if you are REALLY bothered about restricting it. I personally would leave it. Can't see anyone questioning it unless a knowledgable examiner hears the YPVS servo doing its clean cycle when you turn the ignition key but I highly doubt it.

Hi

Which TZR125?

If a UK steel framed one then they were restricted by leaving off the power valve servo and control unit, and pinning the power valve in the low power position. Most were derestricted by just unpinning the power valve and setting it in the high rev / power position.

Some also said that on some bikes there was also a restrictor in the exhaust.

All the best

Keith
