Still building the CBR600 engined race car, just had a thought whether it should have a neutral light or not, how important is this?
i understand the gears are

1st
neutral
2nd
3rd
4th
5th
6th

in this thing, apart from the neutral light is there any other way of telling you're in neutral other than going down to first and back up one?

the drivers of our car will be inexperienced at driving race cars and/or bikes - and a light could save some embarrasment!? so what would you do?

thanks in advance
mike

Shouldn't be difficult to add a light in, and keep it to a small LED on top of the dash, it'll keep the weight down. If you are having a levered gear (like a bike) rather than stick shift, you should really give them a way to know when it's in neutral... The number of times I've missed second, and gone from first to neutral is crazy, the light is definately handy Thumbs Up

fantastic reply, thanks thats all i need - i'll go and put one on today!

the reason i realised is i've just done the loom and put it on the engine, and noticed a wire hanging down off the engine - checked the haynes book of lies and thats what it was, so all i need to do is extend the wire and put a light on it as you say.

thanks again

mike

Sounds like a really interesting project. Got any info I could take a look at? Are you planning for a private race series, or track or something like that? Would be a great twist on Karting I guess...

i dont think that would work. Question

Some bikes like (most i think haven't played around with the cbr) have a relay that is thrown if the neutral light is on, along with side stand and OR clutch.

This is the safety relay before the starter relay. ( can just skip it i would have thought but giving 12volt to start relay bypassing sfaty one) Otherwise it might note start Embarassed

Anyway just though i would say incase i am right (could happen Very Happy )
