I wrapped my chain lock around the rear seat of the bike and the cover over the actual chain was frayed and torn open because it hung too low.

No matter how I try, it either takes me half an hour to do it properly or else it just hangs too low and tears the cover on the wheel (it's probably very bad for the tyre too).

How do you transport your chain? Mine is just the wrong length to be able to properly wrap it around the rear seat so I have to mess around weaving it in and out of the bars. Is it possible to put it around the front forks?

I used to wrap it around me but when you crash you are going to have a problem, under the seat or in a top box is best

Lots of people are saying this these days... Laughing

I considered wrapping it around me but obviously this could hurt if I fell!

I suppose I'll have to get a pillion bag

i was also going to suggest a cargo net. I always have one over the back seat anyway as they're always useful when picking up bits of shopping etc. My GT has a good sticky-up bit on the rack so a covered (so it doesn't chip the paint off) chain goes in and around easily. I put my disc lock in a little bum bag that's woven round the rack bit too. I did used to keep it in my pocket until someone pointed out that in a belly-flop onto tarmac i'd probably smash some ribs/lose a kidney Shocked

But, that little bag thing Vincent has looks the nuts so go with that Thumbs Up

Mine just about fits under my seat if I snake it into the tail fairing in a rather prescribed manner.

i'm always afraid to put it under the seat. Years ago i had one of the spanners from the underseat tool kit slide forward when i was braking and it went across the battery. Bike made an 'i'm not happy now' type noise and stopped. My arse was already warm by the time i'd leapt off to see what was up Shocked Luckily i was not binty enough to take my glove off before flicking the spanner out. . .it was a bit hot Laughing

I carry rarely, a 2 m Almax and lock est 9 kg ... Using friega us10 and strong Oxford bungees, plastic end ones.

I only use a net on top sometimes, so it looks more secure if carrying other things.

I had a bag similar to the one already posted in this thread.
Straps under the rear seat, held lock pretty well in place, clipped off if you needed to take the bag with you.

To be honest I'd just get some rear luggage, or bungee a rucksack down.

I used a small backpack under a cargo net on my pillion seat to transport my chain the other day.

Would definitely suggest something like this. The chain is secure in the bag and the weight is lower on the bike. If it's particularly chunky, having it in a topbox might feel a bit odd (not to mention slide about on corners).
