This is a bit of a 'how long is a piece of string?' question, I know, but is there something obviously wrong about this specific bike or the model in general that causes it to have no interest?

I'm afraid I'm still at the stage where my critical eye consists of 'hmm, that looks nice', and to my eye, that looks very nice indeed.

I had a look at one just after I got my A2 license. Decided against it as the bike and bloke both seemed dodge.

Also they are often money pits - parts very expensive and hard to acquire, and they will need a lot of TLC to run good.

That's exactly the sort of info I was after, thanks.

So what else looks like this, but is easier to look after?

I was tempted as like you I like the look of them.

Bloke was wanting £320 for something that was running but needed work, no tax, no mot.

I was VERY tempted with lots of these smaller classic commuter type things when I passed, 70mph, 70mpg and good looks really appealed. went to see several and in the end decided against it. Running something like that (these kwak z250s are pretty highly stressed and don't eat up miles without fault like a bigger more relaxed machine will) takes more determination and money than a slightly newer, larger bike would.

If you spend the same money on an early/mid 1990s middleweight bike, like an NTV650 or CB500 you will have a bike that should last a lot longer/indefinately for a lot less money. And despite not being a classic now, they will be in the future and are currently at the bottom of their depreciation curve, so they're available cheap and you could improve the 'investment' in the bike as they start to appreciate again if you keep it well. They will be more capable, more comfortable and more dependable than something like a z250 is likely to be (without spending a fortune for a good'n)

Kawasaki GT500

Shaft drive air-head 'four'. Bit long in the tooth, but as bullet-proof as the Skorpion is grenade-like.

That's not too bad. Bigger than I was thinking of, I was a bit dubious about skipping the 25 stage as it is.

There are several GT550s for sub £500 on ebay, is that reasonable?

(Is that more or less the same bike? There were no GT 500s)
