 |
|
I'm wanting to start doing the odd track day and was thinking i might first try a day at the Ron Haslam race school, and just wondered what people thought of it. Is it worth the money? £289 seems a lot of money for an half day course?
My main worry would be their bike and gear, if i was to bin it would i be wacked with a huge bill on my way out or is it all covered within the price?
I've had a quick look on their site but can't find anything. Also they've just added a new date which happens to be on my birthday so if you all wanna chip together it would be greatly appreciated ____________________ "You live more for 5 minutes going fast on a bike like that, than other people do in all of their life.” Marco Simoncelli . |

to answer your questions.. bike and gears all included. no extras. no costs if you bin it.. go nuts
short version, if you've not been on track before or done 1 maybe 2 trackdays its a great experience and you'll learn a lot.
if you've done a load then its a waste of money and you're better off doing a trackday and getting an instructor to follow you round.
so if you fall into the former.. go for it! ____________________ CBR954RR - Daily toy

My sponsor did the chris walker school this week and called me on wednesday to tell me he had a brilliant day with his son, you get timed and someone from bsb level showing you round, giving loads of advice on how to ride the track at your level. The instructors also get you chase them around slowly increasing the pace to help push you along as they watch you in there mirrors.
You also get to do race starts and a race at the end of the day, so its really good value for money compared to the ron haslam school which seems to be lacking value as you only get 30 minutes tracktime, alot of it is in a classroom
I hear. ____________________ Dean Stone #777

The only bad words you'll ever hear about it are from the fuckwits who know it all but still languish in the 'beginners' group at their trackday of choice 'cos they're far too good to consider a riding school.
A few know it all fuckwits turn up at Rons school but he can spot them a mile off . . . . & he soon wins them over.
RH is a riding god who doesn't give a flying fuck about how good you think you are, they will assess you & start from there.
You WILL be a better rider at the end. |
I'm sorry, and I mean no disrespect here, but that's utter crap.
I didn't realise it was a 'novice' introduction to trackdays and went along.. i'd done about 13+ trackdays before i did the day.
i can safely say i didnt learn a thing.
after the first session the instructors got together and basically said 'he's fast' pointing at me and they swapped the guy i was with (who'd only had his licence a few months and never been on a sports bike before) with another guy who was meant to be a bit quicker so my instructor could up the pace a bit.
2nd session the pace was still completely pedestrian, gave up braking and just changed a couple of gears to alter my speed as i wasnt going fast enough to warrant using the brake.
after that we discussed body position or style as they call it. the guy i was with got on a bike, the instructor gave him some pointers. looked at me and said 'theres not much point for you but do you wanna get on?' i did and he just said 'yup, no problems there'
3rd session was better but still a much slower speed than i wanted to go, even considering i'd never been at silverstone before.
after it all my instructor signed me off on virtually As for everything on the assessment sheet and i was off on my merry way.
now dont get me wrong, it was a very good day, i enjoyed myself, the instructor was a decent chap and it was nice to have it confirmed that im on the right track (no pun intended) but i got absolutely nothing from it.
now im not the fastest person in the world NOT BY A LONG SHOT. im just an average inters/fast grp trackday rider but on reflection if id have known what the day would have been beforehand, i would have just gone on a trackday or 2 instead.
only around 20% of all the riders at that day had ever been on track before. tells you a lot about the type of rider its aimed at.
but, as said, if you've not been on track before it's a great experience and taster into track riding but thats its limit. i would recommend it for those riders, but not for anyone that already had a bit of track experience .
i've not done the elite course, just the premier so i dont know how much that differs.. id hope that has a lot more to it than the premier but ive not done it so i cant comment.
on the plus side though i did get a couple of nice pics out of it ____________________ CBR954RR - Daily toy

Well that's my idea blown out the water
To the OP...I think doing it because you've never done a trackday is not a valid reason. The novice group is very friendly and unintimidating so just go for it. You won't be the slowest guy there. ____________________ ZX6R + CBR600RR |
