Don't get such a stupid, pointless, expensive bike and spend the money you save on a big boys license. ____________________ Triumph Daytona 675 track bike + girlfriend's Honda Hornet 600

What bike do you really want? Don't kid yourself by saying "YZF R125", that's just the bike that you want right now, because your head is in the wrong place.
You like fairings? OK, Ninja 250? Restricted GS500F, GPZ500, SV650S (you can get them fully faired), heck, how about a Thundercat? Think you can't afford to insure anything bigger? Wrong. The insurance on my GPZ500 was a straight swap from a 10bhp commuter 125. Get some quotes on 500s with a license, see how much you'd save. If you're even considering an R125, go mad, get quotes on a CBR600F as well.
So, work out the cheapest, quickest way to get to that bike.
We say it over and over and over again:
It's a YBR/CG/EN/CBF tests big boy bike.
If you've got the money to even consider spunking on an R125 and pouring down the drain on insurance for it, then you could just skip buying your own bike and pay for a taught training course to get your license.
You've been sniffing around insurance for months you say? MTFU and get on with it.
The game is changing next year, but right now there's absolutely no need for trinkets like the R125 to exist, let alone for anyone to waste good money on them. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.
GONE: HN125-8, LF-250B, GPz 305, GPZ 500S, Burgman 400 // RIDING: F650GS (800 twin), Royal Enfield Bullet Electra 500 AVL, Ninja 250R because racebike |

In some cases, I'd agree, when it comes to this, no, not really.
As an insurer, I would be very wary of someone who wants to jump on one of the fastest most expensive bikes available to them, yet for some reason feels that actually passing their test is a step too far. |
TBF, I had no idea what that bike the OP was insuring was like - I pay no attention to 125's, but if it's a toy racer than he deserves to get stiffed on insurance, what with the go-faster plastics on it etc. To the OP - I agree with Rog, if you have the money to spew on that and insure it, then you'd be better to spend it on lessons, test and a bigger bike. ____________________ INSTALLING SUMMER... ████████░░░░░░░░44% DONE. There is absolutely no point in getting a Yamaha YZF R-125 - IT goes just the same as any other 125... If you do want a fully faired sports bike, look into an older Honda CBR 125, Insurance will be a lot kinder and it'll go just as well! ____________________ CBT Passed - 22 / 10 / 11 >> Theory Passed - 16 / 02 / 2012 >> Mod 1 Passed - 07 / 03 / 2012 >> Mod 2 Passed - 18 / 05 / 2012. |

I love people like yourself.
There was a guy at college who bought this shiny R125 in. I asked what he'd payed for it and it turned out he'd bought it for £2500.
I was stood next to my Fazer 600 at the time, which was a 2002 model, immaculate with 10k miles that I bought for £1600. My test cost me £500, and insurance another £500.
So basically I was there with a full license, a 600cc bike all insured and ready to go for the same price as he'd bought this 125 for let alone insured it.
Do your test, buy something bigger or if you can't be arsed sell it and buy a ybr 125 instead (which btw are rather nice to ride). ____________________ CBT Passed: 30/08/2009, Theory Passed: 31/08/2010, Mod 1 Passed: 6/9/2010, Mod 2 Passed: 13/09/2010. Restriction ended 13/09/2012.
