On the way back from work today and some bint almost forced me into oncoming traffic!

Just got onto the bypass (single carriageway with an overtaking lane on my side) and went to overtake this range rover.
Then as I'm alongside, out of the corner of my left eye, I see this range rover blatantly veering into my lane! Shocked

Got past and I'm just looking behind at this bitch like wtf?!? Eh?

Couldn't fucking believe it!

I don't know whether it was intentional, but fuck me, that's the closest near miss I've ever had.

It's true what they say...they really are all out to kill you!

i'd have gradually slowed down keeping in front of them until they stopped, got off and smashed thier lights in for em.

4x4's have no place on roads or motorways, wasnt thier initial design meant for farm work and off road travelling?

the main words being OFF ROAD!

The fact it was 4WD is irrelevant.

actually its not

a 4x4 is more likely to do more damage to a biker than say a saloon,

because they are also taller it means they should have a better view of the road when they pull out or change lane. (taller but not stupidly tall light a lorry which gets reduced vision due to excessive height)

As you say us 4X4 drivers have better visibility, we also have better road holding and being hit by 1.5 ton of saloon is going to do just as much damage as 2.5 ton of Landrover. People kill not cars.

so you drive a 4x4? well if your one of the smart ones who looks for bikes instead of just a glance good on you,

but i have to inform you that 1.5ton of saloon does less damage than 2ton of 4x4 TRUST ME.

if you need proof, go find some foam blocks, wooden crates and tie the large foam blocks to the crates,

hit 1 set at 30mph with a saloon then do the same to the other with ur 4x4.

GARANTEE you that the 4x4 WILL do more damage.

people driving larger vehicles have more of a responsibility to ensure they are looking out for bikes.

It doesn't matter what type of car it is if it forces you into the path of an HGV, nor does it matter if they knock you off and you skid along the ground into a stationary object. There's no higher obligation for 4x4 drivers or any other to take more care - all should take equal care.

Or is it ok for someone in a Smart car to run you off the road?

No they do not, all road users have the same responsibility, as said a Smart driver has no less obligation to not hit bikers/pedestrians/other cars/ horses than I do.

Same thing happened to me today, stopped at lights, two lanes turning right, guy to my left sets off slightly ahead of me, sees a wagon in his lane at the next junction, forgets i'm there and veers into my lane when I was just off his right wing. I evade to the far right of my lane, then pull along side his window and he just looks at me like he's irritated im even there.

Everyone drives like a cunt.

My Freelander is not strictly 4X4, it does drive on all four wheels but never at the same time. I use it to tow my bike to meetings and I love big cars, I think it may be a Birmingham thing but half the cars on the road here are Landrover.

But the fact that 4WD annoys you is about you, just as people get in a flap about people riding sports bikes capable of 160 mph on the road. Neither of these is intrinsically wrong, just a matter of opinion/prejudice.

Can I just say that I am not made out of foam blocks and I agree with the Badgery one. A 1.5 ton saloon will kill me just as dead as a 2.5 ton 4X4

Dead is dead and you cant be killed to death more because the car is heavier.

May I add that if you are going to be run over and killed by a car how much better it would be if it was by a magnificent Lode Lane produced Landrover than a nasty little Ford Ka?

Luckily mine is a Lode Lane example that served on both HMS Hermes and Invincible during its service life so rather distinguished. Thumbs Up

My dad drives a SWB Shogun V6 4x4.

He doesn't go off road, he doesn't own a farm, but he does tow a 1.5ton 25ft caravan with it which would be difficult to tow with a normal car.

He has also ridden bikes for over 25years and commutes daily on my GPZ, choosing that over the 4x4 for the fuel bills.

He wouldn't hesitate to run your bike over if you 'smashed his lights in' cos of you attempting to police the road. Rolling Eyes

Your argument, is so general, its ridiculous.

Regularly surprised people coming off roundabouts in my Delica (4x4 people carrier) etc - plant your foot and it just goes in four wheel drive mode where.
All well and good having 'better handling', but the average road user rarely understands how to make use of it.

Got to ask ...
How many times have you had a near miss, only for the offending driver to pull over and apologise ?
I'm lucky in 4 years of driving a Van and Car I've never forced a biker to take evasive action to my knowledge Rolling Eyes
Have any of you chased down a SMIDSY? Razz

Why not? has 4 wheels, has ihttps://www.bikechatforums.com/posting.php?mode=quote&p=3196072nsurance, has "road tax", pays fuel tax, driven by people with licences to drive, fail to see why they have no place on the road.

Their initial design was actually for military use really, then adapted per se for farms, but even still farmers need to get around, why have more vehicles then they need, or are you saying that a farmer is only allowed to drive between fields?

For some people a 4x4 is essential, if I still worked and I guess still lived where I used to live then a 4x4 would be needed

For example when you wake up and the river looks like this
https://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d112/pitslayer/15012008091.jpg
https://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d112/pitslayer/62QG0040.jpg

And if you go left you have 1 mile of unknown water height
https://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d112/pitslayer/15012008094.jpg

And to the right looks like this (you can just about get a Jag through this Embarassed )
https://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d112/pitslayer/15012008095.jpg

And when you get to this bridge and the Defender has it up to the windscreen, your saloon ain't getting through that, I have seen a Rover try and get through it, they floated.
https://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d112/pitslayer/15012008099.jpg

So do you suggest that I would have to stay in and wait for the water to recede?

4x4s are essential, and if people want what they want, let them buy what they want, it isn't up to you to decide what should an shouldn't be allowed on the road.
