well said Andy.
my best mate used to be a traffic womble, and a bloody hard job they do for the most part. there are some real dickheads on the roads these days, and they have to deal with them, day in, day out.

There was an accident on the motorway junction roundabout a bit back. Had to borrow daughter's Vespa to go to work so only 50cc and had L plates. They'd stopped traffic going round the roundabout (it was blocked) but directing traffic onto the motorway (as only exit open).
What a twat. A 50cc moped with L plates onto the motorway. Obviously these people don't have to care about the law or even common sense.
Should I need a career change that I don't have to engage my brain then I may apply. That said because I can think for myself I suspect I'll be vastly over qualified.
So, in summary, no I don't agree with the highways agency patrols As one copper told me it's the thin end of the wedge as far as he was concerned in the move to 'private' policing. They'll be sub-contracting it out next to to likes of Halliburton. ____________________ ...and the whirlwind is in the thorn trees, it's hard for thee to kick against the pricks...

Nothing, I would rather see the whole lot of them scrapped and more cops out there, they are fucking useless, all they do is cone shit off.
Car broken down on hard shoulder with hazards on, quickly put out 3 dinky cones and park with our wheels facing into traffiic, this will stop anything from hitting us, for these cones are like forcefields.
I have never seen them actually be useful, coming back from France a few years back I had a falling out with one or two, lorry turned over, just after a junction M5 blocked, they are sat there doing fuck all, recovery truck is stuck up on the bridge and can't get through down the slip road as they are blocked by cars, not one of them thought, "well considering we have blocked that slipped road off before the accident so no one can get off, why don't we just send the recovery truck down the wrong way then cut up the empty hardshoulder"
Seriously they didn't even think about that, they were trying to file traffic through to clear the way for recovery truck.
Sorry but get rid of them and put more police out there, waste of time waste of money, they are not allowed to do anything, you have a flat tyre they just put some cones around you, seriously what are they achieving by doing this? We managed before these people to change a tyre on a motorway or break down without the need for cones, and you constantly see them pulled up with their wheels facing back onto the motorway.
We managed before without them, all they do is cone shit off and cause chaos, get rid of them we have no need to them. ____________________ Stinkwheel: You have no right to free speech

BUT....
On this logic. turn the wheels to face the field / woods normally to the LEFT of the hard shoulder, else IF they do get hit from behind, their vehicle will end up in LIVE traffic on the motorway, causing further accidents.
PLUS the speed traffic goes by, if its enough to move their vehicle with the hand brake applied, then their vehicle will most likely go straight for a bit, regardless of the wheel direction. |
I am fully aware of the logic surrounding the wheel turning, you turn your wheels left to face off the motorway so if you do get punted from behind your car goes into a verge, not the live motorway, like what will happen because they point their wheels into the motorway, but besides that, their cones should stop all this, right?
