I have a new leather jacket to use this summer, it's a snug fit so I can't fit many layers underneath, nor do I want to. I don't want to end up stretching it. Here's my problem though, it's perforated so wind gets through making it very cold at anything below 10C. So I'm after some kind of windproof base layer to wear over 2 thermal long sleeved t-shirts (I don't really want to layer up more than this).

Any recommendations? The cheaper the better.

Thumbs Up

Some waterproofs over the top?
Easy to roll up and stash under the seat when not needed.

Does you leather not have a removable winter lining?

Most of the true windproof base layers are made from a gore-tex type material and therefore expensive. Anything else is not really going to stop it, although you could look at a Helly Hansen base layer, might work.

Under 10 degrees I would be wearing a lined textile. Keep the leather for when its warm.

If you try the outdoor shops they sell windproof base layers that are thin and very good at reducing the effect of the cold. I bought mine from Trespass simply because we have a local outlet and for a tenner or so I have been really pleased with the performance. I know that HG and others sell similar things for £70-80 but I find that mine works reasonably well.

If you have an Aldi close to you they may have some left.

I bought some last week. They were however in the 'clearance section' as an out of season end of line.

£7 for a shirt and the same for trousers. I have worn a thin T shirt, the Aldi layers and my normal riding attire when out for evening rides recently and have not even for a second felt chilly.

Bargain price but I of course cannot say if your local Aldi outlet will have any stock left.

Nick.

This is what I use.

If you shop around online somewhere usually has them for £30. They weigh 130g or something and are made of Pertex which is windproof and very thin but still durable, had mine 3 years and have run, cycled and used under leathers.

If you want it REAL cheap - put a newspaper under the front of your jacket. It works.

I own one of those EDZ inner jackets which are quite thin but make a big differance.I have only worn it the once but it was worth carrying around for that occasion when I did need it after coming out of the pub and it was quite parky.
