Any good?

What is there to look out for when buying?

A 1990 has come up for sale locally pretty cheaply, on the clocks says 5,500 - obviously wrong.

Anyone have one?

Nothing wrong with low mileage.

Had one briefly, started making a loud tapping noise from the bottom end at about 40k, was crashed a fair bit though.

good bike, nice to handle Thumbs Up

2 things to watch for on this bike is;

- Electrics.. make sure they all work.

- Gearbox, when switching from 1st to second there is grinding/clunking at high rpms (8k+) and sometimes doesnt engage.

Make sure you test ride it and give it some large in first/second and test all electrics.

I've got an FZ6, which is the model that replaced this, and the peeps at this forum:

https://foc-u.co.uk/

All prefer the older one.

Didn't the Thundercat replace the FZR600? Same engine and frame (basically).

Hi

I have one floating around.

As mentioned, the gearbox is the biggest weak point.

Few other points. Exhausts rot. Calipers seize up (although they are not that hard to strip down). Linkages corrode. Rear tyre is an odd size (1990 will probably have the early narrow rim which used to be a down side, but now is a plus point as you can get tyres to fit it). Clutch can get VERY grabby with a bit of abuse.

Mine eats clutch cables for some reason. Possibly I am routing them wrongly but it looks correct according to the manual and I can't see a way to route it which would appear better.

Mine has done about 55k now. They handle nicely and are pretty comfy.

Yes, but with an extra model of FZR600 between the early 3HE one and the Thundercat.

All the best

Keith
