Hi

I just got my bike for Shocked 500, I get about 73mph tops out of it but it is still restricted, i have found a Nikon exhaust system for 150 is this good, can i get it cheaper, also i need to do something with the reed valve, do i just rip it out or do i have to replace it with something.

Thanks

You don't have to do anything with the reed block.

The NS is restricted differently to the NSR, The exhaust is restrictive (I believe) as is the airbox (which nothing can really be done about).

Sorting the exhaust will probably give you the best gain you can get.

As for the price is that new or second hand?

i'ts second hand, getting old now its a k reg bike, i have looked in the haynes manual and it does have a reed valve but it doesn't look like the one on the NSR, it looks kind of like a filter with fins.

Anybody else got any suggestions?

I know the bike will be second hand and you can't compare NSR bits to NS bits so please don't get them confused. Very Happy

Hi

The NS is heavily restricted in the exhaust. A full power standard exhaust works well, but Honda employed a very skilled welder to put the restrictive washers in the exhaust Laughing .

As Gav says the airbox is also quite restrictive (but that is the same on the full power bikes). You can get a bit more go from drilling holes in the airbox lid, or by dumping the airbox and fitting a single K&N cone filter.

Make sure that if you change the exhaust or air filter / airbox that you up the jetting to compensate.

All the best

Keith
