I'm looking at touring europe next summer and popping down to Monaco to ride the circuit. Also stopping off in Le Mans on the way.

What i need from you guys and gals is for you to recommend a website that i can book cheap accomadation, when staying near to Monaco.

And maybe some things i could look at doing.

Hope you can help.

Regards.

Camping or hotel's. And how long? And when you say next summer. Is that this summer or next year summer?

There are TWO F1 Hotels outside Nice.. about 20 miles west of monaco... basic but cheap.

just go to google maps.. find monaco and type F1 Hotel into the search field.

The closest is:

hotelF1 Nice Villeneuve Loubet‎
Le Logis du Bonneau
06270 Villeneuve-Loubet, France
0891 70 54 30

Book via - accorhotels.com‎

Sooner or later opinions fade and the name on the tank matters not. I think that happens somewhere between 3rd and 4th gear. Enjoy the ride... everything else takes care of itself.

I found a cheapish campsite about 20 minutes ride away from the centre of Monaco up in the hills. I couldn't find anything more central but then I didn't spend loads of time looking. It wasn't so bad though as there is plenty of free motorbike parking in the centre, it just meant I couldn't have a beer in the evening as I had to ride back to the campsite.

All of the French riviera is nice and worth checking out, st tropez, Cannes ect. Switzerland is a lovely country if you're riding down that way and there is some great roads in the German Black Forest.

I didn't really plan a route at all when I went last year, I just looked at my satnav/map each evening and found somewhere cool that I could reach the next day. I added a load of extra camping POI into my satnav and just went to the nearest one when I got to my destination.

There is another campsite about 10 miles east up the coast into Italy. Take lots of money, its not cheap down that way.

Thanks for the great replies to my question. I think camping may be a goer, as trying to keep the costs down.

Once again thanks to all those who replied. I'm starting to plan it all out now, ready for next year summer.

Regards.

If anyone can suggest cheap b&b's, we may do that. It's be nice to leave some stuff at the accomodation and travel light to beach etc.

If you contact the tourist information office in the town / city where you want to stay in / near. They'll send you a list.

When I was touring I just set the satnav to the local tourist info, turned up around 5pm and asked for a place (hotel/b&b) which fitted my budget with a vacancy. Sometimes you get some nice places (stay an extra day), sometimes not. I budgeted up to €70 per night (inc b/fast).

We drove a bit further around the coast and camped on a beach carpark. for the small sum of 14 euros between 5 of us, a lot cheaper than a hostel / campsite. We did have a campervan though

I`ve spent a LOT of time trying to find accomodation in Nice/Menton for July 7th prior to catching the ferry and I`m shocked by the prices charged by mainstream and budget hotels

Anywhere around Nice, monaco, or Menton its best to think of your budget price and double it.
There is a YHA on the outskirts of Nice, and another in the centre of Nice https://www.hihostels.com/dba/hostels-Nice-Cam%C3%A9lias-020173.en.htm that they`ll let you park the bike in the garden, where a bunk in a dorm will cost you around 26 euro inc breakfast. The YHA in menton up on the mount has closed, but the campsite ajacent to it, AFAIK is still open. I was originally booked into the menton YHA until they closed it, then bumped my booking to Nice.
I finally cancelled and will be staying at a hotel in Menton where a room is costing me £74 pn
The ibis in menton will cost you around 65 euro, but prices for average hotels in the areea start at 80 euro without bike parking, or breakfast inc. to get anywhere decent your looking at 110 euro pn, and places like Le Abbye costing 200 euro.
Nice and the surounding areas are not nice and cheap, which is why I`ve had to dig deep and spend over my budget to get a place where I feel comfortable enough to leave the bike

If you're camping, shouldn't be too hard to find somewhere to wild camp if you go out a bit.

To add, If you are doing the route and hotels on the hop Accor have an app for booking and checking out the hotels, they own quite a few brands of all price ranges.

If going to Monaco, there is one campsite called St Michael something or other in the lovely town of Menton.

The campsite has great pitches on a plateau overlooking the town and the sea.

The downside is that it's facilities are abysmal. If you walk into town you've got a massive hill to climb or about 400 steps.

Riding up the hill to it is fun though.

You could always stay the other side of Monaco, there are loads of campsites in Antibes.

Oh and things are that expensive either. A pizza in a resturant in Monaco is about €11. You can eat in Cannes, Monaco, and Menton for €15-€20 in a nice enough restaurant.

Bottles of wine are seriously cheap. I bought a 1l bottle (to take away) for €5 from a restaurant. Was tasty too.

Beer is expensive in bars though.

Monaco is cheaper than Cannes and Antibes.

Tripadvisor & hostel hero are both worth checking out for reviews of potential locations and along with HIhostels have "apps"

Thats where the YHA was .......... until they closed it
As for the campsite, AFAIK it was as cheap (or cheaper) to stay in the YHA than stay on the campsite along side it

It was the idea of staying in Menton that attracted me to it, Menton is far enough from Nice & monaco, but close enough to commute in & as my ferry is sceduled to depart in the afternoon for Corsica it shouldn`t be a problem staying in menton. it was only finding accomodation with suitable parking for the bike was the problem.
According to google streetview. Of the (3+ hotels) in the Kyriad chain of hotels in and around nice non of them seem to have anywhere to park your bike safely. likewise as does the Ibis in menton.

i rode round and round the Nice/Cannes/Antibes area looking for cheap camping. It's like rocking horse shit but, i was recommended a site when i was chatting to some hitch-hikers and it turned out to be cheap and lovely. It was called La Vielle Ferme in Villeneuve Loubet (between Nice and Antibes). Run by a welsh couple. Really quiet site as it edged onto a wood and bird-watching marsh but good mix of interesting people passing through and a nice swimming pool.

I got stranded there during the petrol crisis, oooo it was soooooooooo unpleasant Laughing

This was about 12 years ago though so it could be completely different now. Thumbs Up
