Why Oh Why cant folk just pass someone else's bike on the road or pavement and leave it alone, got up today ready for work, got helmet and gloves on got to the bike put the storage box on and took the big lock off and got ready to sling the leg over when i suddenly noticed a cable hanging from the bike,,some ba-tard has only gone and cut my feckin clutch cable clean through at the top, it was hanging by the plastic covering, what satisfaction do people get out of this, it had to be intentional as you dont walk about with pliers or snippers in your pocket,,any advice on how to fit a clutch cable folks on a varadero 125 v4 as im going to pick one up tomorrow,,cheers..

SCUM! That's why i dont leave my bike on the road or even at places like ace cafe without my supervision, i once parked my bike at ace and as i was about to put my stand down, behind me a guy (chav) pushed my bike from behind, i knew it was him, so as i walked passed him i barged the fuck** really hard, he was so surprised and couldn't say a word, even though he had like 5 friends with him! People these days are amazingly f'up....

By the way install alarm on your bike!

Are you SURE it was 'cut'?
Bowden cable is high tensile spring steel; you dont go it with a pair of pliers or snips unless you do it strand by strand!
& where would you 'attack' it? If you were using pliers on exposed length ALL you'd do is crush the outer sleeve tryuing to cut through both together.
Sort of tool that would go through that and inner cable would be bolt-croppers or grinding disc....
If some-one was walking past with that kind of 'kit'... you got of light... they didn't use it on the security chain!

Where, how's it gone? Oft neglected 'part' on a learner-legal.

& they often 'go' at the nipple end where they are poorly adjusted on the free-play adjuster on the lever, rather than at the actuation lever end on the engine.

Cable goes 'thin' as it stretches, then it will snap, strand by strand, where it frets, or it will pull 'clean' out of the soldered nipple.

My bet, is its just 'gone', and last straw when some-one brushed past it... maybe even yourself bending down to do disc-lock....

As for refitting the clutch cable its a really simple job to do. Follow the old clutch cable from the bars to the bit where it hooks on.

It might go through under the tank and weird places like that but generally you'll only have to get your hand under it and have a fiddle. Might be useful getting some new cable ties in case you have to cut some to get the old cable out.

When you fit it make sure there is freeplay in it both full lock left and full lock right - You don't want the gears to disengage going round a tight u turn or something Razz

Also remember to lube it up, should help it last longer this time Very Happy

(Mine broke while I was riding on only the fourth time i'd be out on my bike, consider yourself lucky) :L

I know 3 people in or within 2 miles of where I live that have had their bikes pushed over in the last few months.

When I lived in London I got home one day to find my bike on its side in the street with fuel leaking everywhere. I assumed someone had nudged it with a vehicle and driven off until I lifted it and found a big boot print on the side of the seat.

There really is no helping some people.

I agree with tef..

But one glaring omission seems to be, that a thief will
usually disable a bike, so it has to be left, they can then
come back and 'work' on it, strip a few parts etc in the daylight

If the cable has been 'cut' this to me seems to be an obvious
reason why..
