My Yamaha WR125X has preload adjustment.I think I need to firm it up and ive tried with the tool provided but it just wont budge. The manual suggests you just fit the tool around the ring under the spring and turn, but damned if I cant get it to move. Am I doing something wrong? Do I need to fit a pip to the tool to lengthen it and get more leverage? do i need to compress the spring to get the adjuster ring to budge?

Should just turn with the tool.

Preload will not firm it up - all it does is adjust the static sag.

When you sit on the bike, you want the suspension to sink about 20-30mm.
You want to ensure that the bulk of your rear suspension travel is available for when you actually ride the bike.
If the bike drops too much then increase preload and if you are very light and the bike barely moves under your weight, then soften the preload.

I'm 14 Stone and I think the bike sags a bit too far and feels a bit springy over bumps. Its set at the middle setting at the moment. I just don't want to force it.
