For the last two weeks since I bought my CBR I've been thinking about getting a new decent leather jacket for the summer. Budget of around £300, I'd FINALLY found the one I wanted that had all the kit, but looked awesome too...

https://www.thebikerstore.co.uk/product_images/w/283/spyke_leather-jckt_motika_10185_black__11973_std.jpg

I saw it on eBay - £329.99 for a Medium (42) - perfect, I thought! So I emailed the guy with a few questions and he told me the the Spyke Motika in Black/White had been discontinued and they only had Large (44). Shit.

It turns out that the only place I can find one is on thebikerstore for £429.99 !! !! I don't want to pay £429 for that jacket when similar colours are hundreds cheaper.

I have scoured eBay, Hein Gericke and other places (so I'm not a lazy bastard) and I genuinely can't find anything that looks as awesome, has elbow, shoulder and back protectors, and is around the same price. Any pointers or jacket shouts (w/ links / images) would be greatly appreciated as I'm wanting to buy this weekend! Very Happy

The wording of this and the fact that you've put the name of the jacket in bold has my finger hovering over the SPAM button Thinking

Eh? Fine I'll un-embolden it, not sure how it's spam. Genuine advice please! Not wanting to spend £400 Sad As for the wording... I guess I was really excited about that jacket until I found that I can't have it Evil or Very Mad

Without meaning to sound unhelpful mate, it sounds like you really want that jacket but the only way you can get it is by forking out the extra spondulicks. Wait until you can comfortably afford it then get it. You will be happy then, and it'll last you ages, and you're spending your money on biking related stuff, which as we all know, is what money is designed for.

edit: What about this? It's similar, nearer your budget. No idea what size it's supposed to be though.

Fair point bud, I'm sure you know how it is when you REALLY want something biking related and can't wait to get your hands on it!

Not as keen, but opinions?

Seems to have all the armour, but don't want to look like a tit (more than I already do, aha)! Neutral

Out of interest, how are you planning to buy? Online or in store? Just thinking that stuff usually looks loads better in person than it does online.

I was going to buy online as I've been to the motorcycle stores around me and they don't have huge selections, online's my only option for the top stuff really. It's not even that much is it, bet your boots cost you £100+ on their own?

am sorry but you must have more money than sense if your willing to spead £300+ on just a jacket i spent alot less than £100 buying pants and jacket and gloves second hand off ebay. Rolling Eyes

As for "more money than sense" remark, you can't put a price on your skin - I'm just willing to throw down more for my safety than you are Wink (new job helps).

It's worth noting that a 42 might not be your size in leather jacket.

My RST is a size 46, where as I'd normally be 40/42. I had to work my way up the sizes in the shop until one actually fitted.

You wanna try before you buy.

That's a good point to be honest. I never see the cool stuff that I've found online, in the shops. Yeah my boots cost me around 120 with a discount applied.

Each to their own but I wouldn't buy second hand gear myself. IMO it's worth spending a reasonable amount of money on something that's going to last you years, mould to your own body, and give you confidence in its protective qualities because you know its history. (directed at athelstan600)

Not thought about that, but I did plan on sending it back if it was too small. My current textile jacket is M with some space left so I was just going to go with another 42, and send it back if it's not good enough (most places let you send it back / exchange for nothing).

Tbh I don't know why you jumped in and went all defensive, I personally have nothing against second hand stuff. My BIKE is second hand! I just want something new Smile

As I said, each to their own. You're not the one haemorrhaging money over gear, think of it that way. Wink

I subscribe to Athelstan's view, and tbh you can get decent brands for peanuts (relatively anyway!), so it's not a great sacrifice in safety.

Wouldn't get a lid on eBay, but jackets etc definitely. If it doesn't fit right you can always sell it on!

That said though, I'm a dirty impoverished student, I'd buy my dinner second hand! Mr. Green

Also, that Furygan jacket is banging!

Motika is a great jacket, Furygan is a lovely jacket but not as good as the spyke (if im honest)

https://bikechatter.net/leathers/1091-furygan-crow-jacket-review

Alpinestars GP Pro - Love mine, my current jacket

Held Safer Jacket though for me, when I get sent it I doubt it will ever been removed. Quality and function are amazing for the price range

This is great, only saw the furygan review but for an extra hundred odd I'm not sure the Motika is what I'm after (I'd only want it in black / white, not grey).

Bought the furygan anyway, will post pics when it arrives (although I'm sure you all know what it looks like) Very Happy
