I was going along a single carriageway yesterday, making progress. I was playing leapfrog with the cars where I just take one at a time.

I saw another gap, and I spotted a police van coming the other way, I'm not the kind of person who will shy away from overtaking a police car if it's doing less than the limit, or filtering past one.

So I did my overtake, and as I was pulling back in, the copper put his hand out of the window, sort of like a wave, or like he was waiting for a high five (he wasn't).

What does this mean?

I'm sure this is just part of the police force's attempt to win back the support of the public by showing a more friendly side.

If a copper steps out in front of you and puts his hand up, just give him a friendly wave back and accelerate past his speed trap.
