98 Yamaha thundercat Goes okay in first gear but once you engage the higher gears goes like nothing..... feels like a lack of petrol. full tank of petrol atm..... i nearly ran out the other night n was fine after. sat in over night n began to work at the front left indicator as the lead had somehow disconnected jumped back on bike n the problem began. becomes a tad jumpy in second n real lack of power in higher gears. any thoughts???

When you were running out of fuel you stuck it on reserve and as the tap inside the tank is lower for reserve the shit in your tank is now in the carbs.

Unless you put diesel in the bike then i cant see it being anything else. The shit would have been floating and moving around with the fuel and when left to settle then its started to block your jets. If you are lucky and its sitting in the float bowls and getting sooked up the jets you can try draining each carb with the drain bolts. If not you need to take them out to clean.

drain the float bowls, then flush the carbs through by putting the fuel tap on prime for a few seconds, catch the petrol in a tub.

Thundercat's don't have reserve taps etc, just a tap to turn off the fuel supply when you lift the tank... we just have a flashy yellow light to warn us to fuel up! Wink

The rest of the advice stands though, check the usuals, carbs/air/spark etc.

Have an ask here too - plenty of Thundercat experience there.

It's a bit odd that it'll run OK in first gear but not the others; if it was a fuel problem I'd have thought it would be the same regardless of the gear. Maybe this is a red herring?

It does sound fuelly though. Always worth draining the carbs to 'reset' and see what happens next. Also worth checking for a kinked/trapped fuel line and making sure all the lines are connected under the tank (fuel and breathers).
