steering locked ?!

Hello Everyone, I'll get straight to the point.

I was riding the bike earlier home from work & the steering totally locked up, wouldn't let me turn left at all. So i stopped for a minute, then it was ok. Then started riding the last 4miles home and it locked up again, i had enough control to make it home until the last corner i nearly come off because the steering was still locking and i couldn't turn or lean enough with the steering locked.

It turns fine right, but left it doesn't at all just sits totally central. What could it be? Help much appreciated!!
