First of all, hello everyone. New to the bike scene, I bought an extremely cheap CG125 - part commuter, part "let's learn about bikes" project. Anywho, after getting familiar with the bike I came across this.

Honestly, doesn't look right to me, just flapping around? Bike rides fantastic though considering it's a bit of shed (not the best condition, but the price was stupid cheap).

What is it?

its a drain pipe

theres a screw above it on the other side of the carb. undo that screw and it will drain the fuel out of the carb

and yes it should just dangle down.

Oh, thought it was something to do with fuel. Well, that's that issue sorted then.

yeah, its nothing to worry over, if you ever have to take your carb off, turn off the fuel tap and stick a tub under that hose and undo the screw. saves getting coated in fuel later on like i did haha

Also handy for donating some petrol to aid a stranded biker Smile

Congratulations anyway on joining the fold, and the CG125 is a cracking bike to start with. Simple, and there are tons of cheap spares. You should also get respect from even the most seasoned riders of bigger bikes. The CG may be small, but it is perfectly formed and it is the real thing. Sort of the Jack Russell of the bike world.

You will get loads of help from this forum, but when you post it would be very useful to state which version it is. Early ones were 6V electrics, made in Japan. They then went to 12V, and production moved to Brazil. And the final ones had a disc front brake and a carb heater to help with cold weather running. As far as I know, they are still making them in Brazil.

One bloke rode a CG125 from one end of South America to the other, & then back again:

I sold my CG125 with 44,000 miles on the clock, and still pootling along.

As above it is the drain pipe for the carb and it is routed through a guide in front of the swing arm:

https://i1049.photobucket.com/albums/s383/TomHanley/1.jpg?t=1338148413

The crankcase breather pipe is missing from your engine though. That pipe should connect to your air box.

Running your engine without that connected will allow dirt and anything of the road into your engine.

It should look like this, minus the starter motor:

If you have only just got the bike then it will be worth changing the oil and filter, especially as you don't know how long the bike has been run without the breather tube. Also check that the valve clearance is in spec and that's all you need to do to keep the engine in good condition.

Anyway good luck with your CG Thumbs Up

That's why I was initially confused as it certainly looked like something should have been connected there. Is it just a simple pipe I need then and where would I purchase one?

Once thats done, I'll work on changing the oil and filter.
