More recent video. Latest one anyway, haven't made any changes to it other than a new carbon fibre GSXR mudguard and cleaned the brakes/front end up a bit whilst I was at it.

Sooooo... The Bandit got a new MOT today. It had a major clean, a set of new front wheel bearings (perhaps unsurprisingly), the front and rear brakes bled with fresh fluid and the rear brake lever linkage reworked. I also removed the stupid stickers as I was sick of them, apart from a couple.

I like it better all black, looks shiny. I know it has out of date tax, I haven't stuck the new disk in yet lol. Also the rear link plate for the tail end was off for painting in pics. Next minor cosmetic jobs are to recover the seat, spray the spare rear end I have prepared and sort the tank out. End of summer the turbo will be coming off for a rebuild.

Recently, the wastegate fell off this. Near on 2 years of use, the weld not being awesome and a lack of support on the pipe all contributed to it.

I had a friend weld it back on for me, and also weld a support between the 'gate exit and the main dump pipe to prevent it happening again.

https://img69.imageshack.us/img69/313/7uvs.jpg

The work meant I had to strip the exhaust bandage off which left me with a gammy pipe but nothing a little elbow grease couldn't sort out.

https://img845.imageshack.us/img845/5803/sjdg.jpg

Latest revision to a daily ridden turbo bike, has over 3k miles on it now and it is gradually becoming normal to me. I went to Brightona in the pissing rain on it and really enjoyed myself, massive rolling burnouts in 5th at the ton are great fun. Very Happy

You're mad but this is seriously cool. Glad it's not just sitting in a garage not getting any use. What kind of mpg/distance to a tank are you getting on this thing? It can't be particularly economical. Laughing

um, well brighton is 50 miles from portsmouth when I went I used 21 litres of fuel getting there and back. Bearing in mind it was wet so I wasn't able to use the throttle much that works out to roughly 21 miles to the gallon.

So, um, thirsty. It's done as low as 13 before on a round the island lap.

So punching it in the bollocks it has a tank range of about 55 miles, on a cruise roughly 88 miles.

Not exactly a tourer.

Just out of curiosity, what's it like going through the gears?

I'd imagine with the extra grunt they will seem a bit too short now? and what's the top speed like? If you've ever reached it that is Laughing

stupd question ill wat to be flamed but how does it compare to say a s1000rr that pus around 200 bhp as stock? or say a zx12r with big power as bhp wise it doesn't have 'loads' compared to some motors but it has boost . stupid question I guess

About £8000. That is how it compares.

I'd rather have something that was ~200hp and cost £1500 for the bike and £3000 for the go-faster bits than having a bike everyone else has at £12,000 Wink

You do get a fair bit of additional weight, no fairing and around 10 years less development in suspension but who cares when you got bwaaaaaaaahhhhh ppssshhhhhhhh Cool

The other bikes you listed are all lean-forward types where the weight of your head and torso is carried by your spine and strong back muscles. On a bandit your arms do much more work. Turbo adds torque - loads of it. You'll feel it in your arms as they struggle to prevent your joints being pulled out of their sockets and in your neck as you fight to keep your head attached.

a 200 brake sports bike is like a finely crafted swiss knife.

a turbo bandit is like a sledge hammer with 6" nails welded to it.

they'll both cut your steak, only one does it properly though.

ok then a early zx12r ... I mean the turbo must make it het there a lot lot faster? in a drag race etc?

The zx12-r is a cowson to do due to the airbox design. Also have weak clutches.

cowson? I just mean in bhp relevance the turbo b12 is about the same bhp as a zx12r so would the bandit pull away from it / be faster I am assuming it would be bhp - bhp wise or not I aint talking money wise just bike wise .

You can have whatever delivery characteristics you want by choosing the right turbo size, A/R and trim so just asking about 'which bike' is meaningless. BHP alone won't get you down the road quick.

As Pete has mentioned, torque is a major factor. This bike is on the strong side of 200bhp, then again so is a BMW s1000RR with a pipe and a 'commander.

However, whereas the BMW is putting out 80lb/ftish torque and revving higher to do it, this is putting out circa 150lb/ft torque and peaking far lower in the powerband. In other words, the turbo amplifies the stock power characteristics of the bandit 1200 namely good low end, huge midrange and a bollock all top end. If the motor was to be recammed with something a bit more top end friendly, the peak power would jump but the mid range would be affected and it would be less rideable.

An example would be all these 1000+ hp Supras that are very impressive on a dyno and a very long stretch of road but if you put them on a track or even a dragstrip they will be walked by something with half the power. This is because they are tuned to produce enormous headline horsepower figures at 10,000 rpm but are shit either side of that.

To answer the question in fewer words, up till around 150mph (160 max with present gearing) there is very little on the road in a car or a bike that will live with it. It is an utter brute, simple, mechanical anger wrapped in a motorcycleish shape.

Nailed it. With lots of tyre smoke if you are being silly. And sore arms if you ride it too long.
