Hey,

I'm looking to buy a 125 scooter for commuting to work. This will be my first bike. I will do around 20-25 miles a day on roads and towns with 30 to 50 mph speed restrictions. I've done some research and I am interested in the following two scooters:
PCX125 - https://www.honda.co.uk/motorcycles/scooters/#!/pcx125/
PS125i - https://www.honda.co.uk/motorcycles/scooters/#!/ps125/

I hav'nt found any comparison reviews for those two on the internet. Could someone advise me which one is better for my commuting journeys or what the differences in qualities are?

Thanks

Have you seen them in the flesh? I've seen lots of the PCX lately, and it's not a small scoot. That could be a good thing depending on your size and comfort levels, but for quick filtering it's probably not as practical.

They both look very good.
Try and find one of each at a dealership and have a sit on them if you haven't already. One might feel more comfortable, or you just get a better feeling about.

I can't say anything about the PS125 as I've never riden one; however, I actually own a PCX.

For what it is (a 125 scooter) it's actually reasonably good performance; fast off the line and will do 60 comfortably (usually reaching 65 with full throttle), however, 55 would be a more sensible cruising speed

As the first person stated, it's quite large for a small capacity scooter and I always find it very comortable. Economy is very good too, I usually get about 100MPG out of mine. The fuel tank is quite small, not sure of the exact capacity but you can look that up. It costs just over £6 to fill it up and that will get over 100 miles.

One of the best things I find about the bike is the large under seat storage; I can fit my full face helmet, gloves, scarf and chain quite comfortably.

Hope this helps.

Alex

Edit: One bad point I will mention is the seat hump. When it rains, water will run under the hump and become trapped for a while; meaning that after the rain stops and your riding along you'll end up with a wet arse through water dripping out from the bottom of the hump directly onto where your sat. Sounds petty but its actually very annoying.

I would recommend the PCX, it's big, comfortable, and the larger wheels make it handle more like a bike than a scoot, the one thing I would recommend is removing the standard Honda variator and replacing it with a Malossi item, oh, and the seat hump is bloody annoying.

I would recomend PS125 it has way better comfort with huge seat and higher comanding position which for me works better in traffic, a better power the trottle is very smooth and progressive, the brakes are perfect again smooth and progressive, linked Combined Brake System braking is very close to ABS. If needed PS125 stops like car not motorcycle. It has flat step-through footboard means easy mounting (PCX does not have it) and a comfortable riding position. Very good suspension smoothes out any bumps on the road.

In order to find out you better go and test drive them both, for me PS125 was better.

PCX seat was too low and was too small and not so comfortable as PS125. Comfort is very important for me I am 6 foot 16 stones and do hapilly 80 miles daily London commute on it. PCX may work for you.

This - the PS125 has quite a high seat, which depending on rider height, makes probably the biggest difference. My GF didn't like my PS125 owing to the height. IMO the PS is also slightly more practical owing to the flat footboard; and I think the engine is better in practice, i.e. you do get a headstart on PCXs, and I suspect it has a higher real-world top speed (especially with appropriate variator changes since it has higher output); it's the same engine as the SH125, which is Honda's top range 125 scooter. Combined braking system on the PS adds a third piston to the front brake, so it should stop sooner too.

PS has smaller underseat capacity (won't fit a full-face) because the fuel tank is under there too - the smaller PCX fuel tank is between your feet. I always put a top-box on my scooters if they don't come with one. Top-box security is better IMO - seats are easily peeked into and lock snapped. My GF got her seat broken and helmet stolen this way. A seat with a broken lock will fail MOT.

PS is nearly 4cm thinner (surprising how much difference this makes, often seen with wide flat handlebars on big bikes), but has smaller wheels at 13" vs 14" for PCX.

If I could only have one Honda 125cc scooter to do everything I use bikes for, I'd choose the SH125, then PS125, then possibly PCX125. If I could only have one for London use and not worry about longer trips outside the M25, I'd probably choose PS125 first.

Absolutely agree but SH125 was too expensive for me and I've got 400 pounds discount on my PS125 means I've got it cheaper then PCX - hence I've got PS125 and have not stopped smiling since then Smile

If you can afford it, get a burgman 125, having had one myself to commute, I couldn''t of been happier, in fact I got the 400 version instead lol.
Storage space in it, is unmatchable, it's wide fairing gives such good weather protection, it's huge road presence, and it's pretty nippy and agile too. it's perfect for a commute if you ask me.. just a little pricey.
