The fuel gauge is scrolling from the centre out and back again. There is plenty of fuel in it .

Starter turns over fine battery showing 12v

When I turn the ignition on I hear the cut off relay click but no pump priming sound.

Unhooked the fuel pump wiring and tested - ignition on results in a few secs of about 6volts .

If I connect the pump directly to the battery I hear it working and after if I open the filler you can hear pressure released.

Have swapped the relays about no change. Could it be a dodgy pump on its way out or something else?

I think I've diagnosed it... Bad earth from the loom side of the fuel pump. As when I connect it straight to the frame, pump fires on key turn and fuel gauge reads correctly.. cleaned up the earth connection and checked the continuity, no change still resistance in the cable.

I guess this points to a broken wire somewhere in the loom. Any tips on how to find it? I guess I have to peel back all the electrical tape and follow it along and look for it . But it looks like a complete spaghetti! Might be easier to swap out the whole loom?

Edit; if I do manage to find it what's the best way to join it back together?

In case anyone was following this . I found the cause. It was the earth from the fuel pump where it meets the grounding box near the battery. (a yellow connection) the connection must've been loose it was corroded and part of the female plug burnt away . Soldered a new piece onto the connector and pump.now fires on the key turn. need to charge the battery now and check it runs tomorrow
