Eyy-uupp. I've been riding my CBF125 for about a month and a half now and after riding pillion on a Bandit600 and feeling the stability and power I have caught the bike bug. I thought to myself that I would stick to my CBF for about 2 years after I pass my full license but alas, that is now not the case.

My CBF feels too rickety and I feel unsafe when hitting 50+mph on a 60 road I just want to get rid of it as soon as possible. I was thinking that a Honda Hornet as a first big bike. I saw one in my neighbourhood and it looked lovely! And as I've read through 'New Bikers' people have suggested this as a first big bike to people (also Honda's reliability) BUT, I need to find bikes that are kind to small people D: I'm 5'3-4" (Around about anyway) and I was wondering whether Hornets would be okay for someone my height! Cheers for reading Very Happy

There's the new restriction coming in January 2013 so it would be good idea to pass your test now but I wouldn't be so quick to move up to a 600 yet; you learn a lot from riding a rickety 125 learner bike because it doesn't correct for your mistakes in the way a full sized bike does.

I see you've got over your confidence woes then Wink Thumbs Up

Bigger bike, more weight better brakes, more stable more power to get out of bad situations, for the win

Seat height on the monster is really low, perfect for short arses, not going to pretend its the cheapest bike in the world to buy/insure though, but at least worth a test ride Thumbs Up

The Hornet seat height is actually pretty low and it's a bike you sit 'in' rather than on so it might be a good call.

For a more detailed answer, Bendy (I think) did a good post on riding bikes for short arses!!

Hornets are ace, great first big bikes but if not an ER5 or GS500, 400 sports or original monster could all be worth looking at.

I love my Hornet but unfortunately I am 6' 2" and it's not comfy as I am more perched on. Am sure it must be great for someone smaller

She did. It's stickied at the top of the New Bikers section.

Like trikeschick I am a relative giant at 6'3" so my 99 Hornet is a tad on the small side for me, but had a smaller owner beforehand who got on very well with it. Get to dealers and have a sit on some though, only way to find out what fits you Thumbs Up

Yeah Hornets are awesome Very Happy Hornets do have a pretty low seat height but your best bet is to go and sit on one.

+1 For a GS500 though, if you didn't like the feel of the hornet or too pricey then a GS is always a safe bet. I had one for a year and it taught me well Wink

I like the Hornet, have one myself. I can't find any faults with it, handles well, power is good, off the line quick. Mine is restricted to 33bhp, so it's got more potential!

One complaint, is that I've been trying to learn to wheelie on the damn thing, but can't get the front end off the ground AT ALL! Beginning to annoy me.

I am about your height as well. Got a 650 Bandit as my first big bike and had to get it lowered cause I couldn't touch the ground except for extreme tippy toes (no stability when stopped especially on low camber or in a rut). Lowered it is perfect. In saying that, now that I've had nearly 2 years on the bike, I am thinking about getting it put back to its normal height because I now have the confidence on it.

Cheers guys! I'm not sure there are any honda dealerships nearby, may have to venture off a little further to sit on one.

Yeah, I know of this restriction and will hopefully get my license by the end of summer (only time I can realistically do). I've gotten quite comfortable with my CBF, rickity as it may be, I know that jumping on to a 600 may not be too smart. I also had a Bandit 400 in mind, as it was suggested to me and said that it may be good for someone my height! Very Happy

Aha, yeah! I've had a few close calls and shook me up a bit, but it's all good. I over think things too much, but it's all cool! The look of the Hornet caught my eye too, I think it looks amazing!

Am afraid I'm not from Glasgow! Would be easier if I was though! D:

Cheers again, guys! I'll check out the thread and try and find dealerships nearby, see if I can convince the guy from down the road to let me sit on it, too. Razz

It's not the EDF mascot, unfortunately. I would love to have one! I have Clyde the ghost from Pac Man instead.

Ahahaha, cheeky! To be fair, when I saw the bike, I went to get a closer look (The chain was hideously dry and rusted) a guy shot a look at me. And trust me, if looks could kill I would've been maimed. Might have been him or I may have been slightly inebriated due to the fact that this happened during a Beer Race.
