 |
|
Hi All
I'm Heading off to europe for 3 weeks at the beginning of July and am trying to plan my route.
I have ridden to switzerland twice now, once straight through France and the second time a bit into Germany and then down.
Both I found very boring as france is full of incredibly flat and straight roads.
So this time, I figured to save time and effort (effort mostly) I would like to stick the bike on a train over night and hopefully in the morning wake up in (or closer to) switzerland.
From what I've read you used to be able to do this using "moto-rail" but that has been shutdown, and from what I can tell the only option now is to use "Auto-Train" but you have to put your bike on one train and yourself on another
Sounds odd to me, has anyone done this before/have advice?
This is roughly the route at the moment...

Not looked into the train before and neither have I heard of it so sorry...can't really help. However, if I were going to Switzerland again like I did last summer, I'd never pass up on the opportunity to ride the roads in and surrounding the black forest. They're immense and have less traffic compared to the multitude of passes in Switzerland. You're not deliberately bypassing them for any particular reason, are you? I'd hope not just for mileage sake!
3 weeks, damn I'm jealous. |

Last time, I'm guessing I went through the black forest as I went from Strasbourg to Lake Konstanz, I don't remember it being particularly enjoyable, though that may have been because I was on my ikle 250 crapping myself as beemers and audi's were taking it past me at silly speeds
Mostly the reason is I'm trying to avoid the flatness of france and get to the twisties quickly and pleasently.
This year I'll be on my SL1000 so if I can't do the train thing it should be a bit quicker than the 250 but my newly acquired wife is refusing to go on her own bike so she'll be riding bitch ____________________ Current - Hornet 600, Transalp 650, X140 Pit, GPZ400R

The closest you will get to Switzerland is Braincon on the Auto Train.
You can catch it from Paris Bercy, just around the corner really from Gare du Lyon.
Your bike goes on a train in the evening, and you are left to catch a different train.
The problem I see is that you still have to ride the 3-4hrs from Calais to Paris and that's the most boring bit.
The roads as you get closer to Braincon are nice. ____________________ Motorcycle headlight bulbs and HIDs
