Anyone managed to make millions on the stock market?

Since I've been awarded full ESA and DLA for the next 9 months I've thought about the stock markets... well not really... I've thought about trying to make a few quid.... probably better to start selling replacement environment to the government at a premium... but I'd be interested in making a few quid from near bankrupt companies.

I haven't got a clue about shares etc, don't have a bloody clue about stocks in up and coming companies that might go bust wasting my £170 a week (OK so I'm no Nick Leeson), I have the general principle in place.... check the markets.... see what's dropping in price... wait until I think it might start picking up and buy shitloads.... if I'm right I'm in the money... if I'm wrong I commit suicide.

That's how the stock markets work... right?

I'm thinking about opening a practice and becoming a GP. I know the basics right - people come in, I diagnose and make them better?

How hard can it be? Although I know absolutely nothing about a complex subject, I just want to make loads of money out of thin air for absolutely sod all work. There's loads of doctors everywhere so it must be easy, right?

If you want to play, make a fantasy share portfolio.

Shares is for if you have a lump of money to leave in there, if you are wanting to move a few hundred in and out often, you will lose any profits on trading fees.

I made a small fortune from shares, I did it the easy way, I started with a large fortune.

The blatantly obvious stupid mistake I made was don't have all your eggs in one basket.

If I were to think about investing again, I'd go for a tracker fund with low charges. Most clever fund managers and stock brokers do not beat the market, and they take a cut. With a tracker fund, annual charges are lower.

The other thing I would consider is a fund from a reputable company that invests in the far east as I think growth will be stronger there than in the UK, but I think charges will be greater than a tracker, and more risks.

I think saving and then spending on stuff you actually need is a better plan though in current financial climate. Invest in yourself.

Given the type of phone calls I get from GPs, that doesn't sound too far from the truth Smile

Yeah I've met a few GPs who are lacking some of the basics in terms of general understanding, even if they did somehow manage to pass their exams.

£170 per week will likely only get you a couple of pound profit, for the profits available on £170 per week, you'll be better just not bothering
