Thinking of wiring in a few accessories to the bike. I have been advised to run these through an aux fusebox probably located under the seat or the tail.

Plans are for an old autocom (was wired direct into rear tail light on old bike) and a GPS. Maybe heated wrap on grips for winter. Some daylight LEDs may get put on but these will probably be spliced direct into the front side/parking light connector.

Now I'm thinking the standard way to do this would be to fit a 20a/30a feed via a relay from the battery to the aux fuse box. The relay switch on by a link to the rear light for example.

However, I have found that the bike fusebox actually has a switched output that I can plumb into. So put a line with a 20a fuse in that direct to aux fusebox and save on a relay? Feed 3 or so feeds from that live in aux fusebox with a common line direct to earth/frame from that fusebox.

I'm thinking that'd be ok. After all I know people who just put connectors direct to the battery. I just wanted to run it by others just for a sanity check to see if I'd missed the obvious (I don't really like automotive electrics and wiring).

Downside is that the GPS would only be on when bike on. Can't see this being an issue although can anyone see any problems when used?

Thanks.

Sounds good although the size of the fuse depends on the thickness of the wire leading up to it.

Most accessory circuits use a 10A fuse so I'd suggest this would be more appropriate.

That still gives you 130W to play with.

Thanks for that. Will get around to ordering some bits.
Think Vehicle Wiring Products should have what I need.

Thumbs Up
