Ive been thinking about a big trip, (international) on a bike. Ideally was going to sell my drz400, 57 plate and only 3k miles and get a ktm 640 or a yam xt660 or similar, but I havnt had the time or effort to sell it, so Im considering a trip on the drz, which I know is capable of the milage, but lacks in top end speed compared to road bikes such as ninja's and Zthous Ive had.

Any one done it and any advice?

Thanks in advance

Change the gearing on it? Something like 16/42 will help a lot for cruising... I think 15/44 is standard.

First off, the whole trip will be a lot more time and effort than selling a bike, one would hope!

However, providing you keep the speed down, you should be fine - so plan a route which doesn't fly you across countries, but takes in lots of back roads etc.

And maybe get a more comfortable seat.
I do 70 miles a day on mine and find myself aching by the end of it.

Thanks all, Shall do a few recky trips first, Im not in a rush to go. So have time to play. Gearing sounds like option to start with although I have the dual sport anyway, but not sure what standard is on that so will take a look.

Thanks again
