How can I improve the performance of my chinese moped ?

Basically its all pretty much stock and its acceleration is terrible(embarrassing more like). From 0-30MPH its very slow but from 30 its ok. Its top speed is about 45. The bike is a Xinling (chinese, pretty much the same as a Baotian but different plastics). Its done about 8500 miles and was made in 2007. I don't really know anything about modifying (I dont know how to up jet or replace and parts) so any tutorials or advice will help.

The best thing you can do to make it quicker is throw it away and buy a proper bike thats designed to go fast in the first place.

Yes i do say. Remember that chucking a scoot down the road @ 30mph will hurt the same as chucking a cbr600 down the road @ 30mph.

So yeah chill out and one day, if you manage not to get banned before you are a big boy, you can get a bigger bike or 600cc scooter if you want one.

I would get a powerband if I was you. Red or blue are the fastest but you can get carbon ones for a bit more money.

You should get between 5 and 10% power increase.

I wasnt talking about learning how to ride I was talking about chinese ped's being shit plus what is there to learn when riding a moped.

I dont know anyone in my area who is 16 and their ped isnt de-restericted, mine is probably the slowest where as others are able to go up to 50+

Fair enough, its the only type of vehicle which I can be insured on at my age though I know de restricting affects the insurance.

All you have to do is:-
Put your lid on, but make sure you leave it undone Thumbs Up
Wear flip flops, light weight you see. Give you better acceleration and higher top end. Thumbs Up
Wear a pair of shorts so all the girls can see your chicken legs, and the wind rushing past an empty ballsack feels amazing. Thumbs Up
Wear a T-shirt cos when it flaps about it helps with the aerodynamics and increases stability.
Take the mirrors off, you will never use them anyways and they only end up slowing you down.

The most important thing is pin the throttle everywhere, all the time.

Doesn't make it any less illegal. What you have there is actually now classified as a motorcycle. In order to make it legal to use on the road you need to inform the DVLA of the change of class. This may make you subject to having your vehicle inspected at a local DVLA office or possibly a VOSA test center if they determine that an MSVA is required. You will then need to MOT and tax the motorcycle as a motorcycle and insure it as a modified vehicle (Which will cost you a fortune). You'll also need to be 17 to ride it with a valid CBT and provisional licence.

If you fail to do the above then you leave yourself open to several avenues of prosecution (Riding without a valid driving licence, Mis-registered vehicle etc. IIRC having a mis-registered vehicle also allows the police to confiscate the bike.)

Not that most of us haven't riden de-restricted mopeds, but a lot of police forces are getting wise to it and more and more are getting road side dyno's. Do your time on a moped, then get a proper bike when you can. If you turn 17 before January then try to get your test done before then otherwise you'll fall fowl of the third directive rules.

I turn 17 in December but what are Third directive rules ?

Don't need a roadside dyno to find out if it will go over 31mph...

If you get pulled by a bike cop you are gonna have a bad time.

Derestricting doesn't affect insurance either - it invalidates it,but hey, I'm sure you know the risks...

Anyhow, I'd be very surprised if you could mod a shitty chinese ped to get more than 45mph out of it. I guess you could lose some weight to improve acceleration?

In the EU once you have taken out an insurance policy on a vehicle the insurance company are required by law to cover the third party aspect of any claim, thereby the vehicle is insured. What the insurance company can do is sue you to recover their costs.

Im sure you could tell a cop this while he was recovering the bike...

If this is the case it means I could take out a policy saying my bike is a 50cc boation crapmobile, and ride around on my ducati instead, but I would be covered? I'm pretty sure the insurance company could successfully argue in court that the contract you signed when taking out the insurance was invalid due to the vehicle you said you were insuring isn't the one you are riding...
