On my GSXR400R the back tyre has now went flat on two occasions. It was fine for the first 2 weeks I had it. Then one day it went flat really quickly like I must have punctured it. Got it pumped back up as it was at 0 pressure. Then it was fine for a couple of days. So I though it can't be a puncture if it's stayed inflated. But then the other day it went completely flat again. Wasn't a gradual deflate, it done it in the space of 5 minutes while riding. I had been riding for a few hours on it that same day, so you'd expect it to go flat right away if it was punctured.

Not sure what's causing it. I did put on some different valve caps the same day as it first went flat as my mate had two spare ones from a 4 pack he had and I put them on my bike. This wouldn't have had any effect would it? I've since removed them and put the other ones back on but yet to see if they make a difference.

I need some testing check list to go through to see if I can find the problem, so please post any suggestions and I'll try them. Thumbs Up

Yeah would probably go with Riz, I would say your valves are probably dodgy.

Highly unlikely that the valve caps are anything to do with it IMO (after all they are just there to keep dust out of the valve), may be worth going to a shop and asking them to replace the valve will only be a couple of quid.

Thanks guys. I did suspect the valve to be faulty. The tyre is pretty new. At £120 for the rear tyre I'm just praying it's nothing else! Confused

Thumbs Up Karma

I had a similar thing on my VFR4 and it was a broken valve. You could wiggle it and hear air escaping, then it snapped off in my hand.

Safe.

take the bike back to the shop wear they fitted the tyre and get them to check the valves and the beading if it is fairly new the may have not sealed it correctly but it would go done fairly quick if it was the beading.

I've got a similar problem. Gained a nail in a two month old back tyre. It was OK for a few days with it in, then it started to go down. Took the tyre off and took it to the local garage who plugged it, left it on the centre-stand for the weekend while I was on holiday, came back, took it off, thud! Been riding about all week with an air compressor under me seat to pump it up after work.

Yesterday I rode home with just 16psi in it! Odd thing is it felt OK to me lol Wont do that again in a hurry tho, caned the hell outta my fuel Sad

I'll be taking it back on Sat for them to take another look. Will also need a new front tyre as its nearly bald! *sob* Sooo much money Sad
