Can anyone offer advice as to where computers load up the about:blank home page? For some reason instead of my computer loading google.co.uk as my default home page it now loads about:blank which then loads about 3 other windows all with links to porn. Sounds pretty good apart from I cant get rid of it. Hacked the registry to force it to load google and that made no difference. Upon looking at the value again it has been overwritten again. Internet properties in ie also make no difference, every time I change it - it goes back to about:blank.

Any ideas anyone?

Get yourself a copy of Norton Antivirus. There is a worm which chages the Homepage to porn, as well as a buch of other things.
My norton picked this up yesterday before it could fiddle with anything.

Forget Norton antivirus. It doesn't deal with spyware. Other than that I'd recommend AVG (www.grisoft.com) over Norton any day.

Go to www.spywareinfo.com - You need:
Adaware
Spybot Search & Destroy
CWShredder

You can also try 'Hijack this!' - although there is the potential to cause catastrophic damage to your OS with it if you don't know what you're doing. Give that a miss unless you know your way around windows/registry pretty well.

Norton 2004 does actually detect spyware now. Not sure how good it actually is but it did find things that adaware couldn't detect.

If your running adware and it doesn't solve the problem. try running it again but in safe mode.

Spybot Search and Destroy.

I've found that running both that and AdAware pretty much removes anything Malware related. (Despite them giving warnings they might conflict with each other or something to that description, I've never had, nor seen, any problems).

Tried SpyBot and it found loads of stuff which I repaired and deleted, However it has made no difference, it still loads about:blank and then a really annoying popup window that just says spywear detected which then knackers internet explorer. Why do people write programs/ scripts that screw computers up other than to really piss me off. Evil or Very Mad

I get the same problem from time to time.

As well as using adaware I also use a programme called Hijack This. That always finds some more.

Even after installing some firewall software the problem still reappears from time to time so something's still on my pc somwhere. Just haven't got a programme that'll find it yet Sad
