Hope this is the right place to post, if not apologies and mods please do as you will!
Hey! My name is Chris, I'm 18 and a few weeks ago passed my CBT, got a gorgeous 2008 Honda CG and am loving every second of it.
However the first couple of days on the road alone after CBT I really hated it, tbh I shouldn't have been given my certificate, I hadn't been taught enough/much at all (never talked about gears at all during CBT and me being dumb and nervous didn't even think to ask until we were on the road and I realised, whilst unable to communicate with him, that I had no idea how gears worked!). After the CBT and before my next couple of solo ride outs I was physically shaking with nerves and feeling sick, dreading getting on the bike in order to commute to college, scared that my next mistake would be my last.
Then I found you guys, all my questions had been asked so I never needed to post but boy did I lurk, for hours each night! Every post and tip I read got me enthusiastic and more confident and I can honestly say I grin and jump at any and every opportunity to go out on the bike now!
Prob a little over dramatic but considering how many times I stalled on roundabouts until I read a post on here about revving much higher before releasing the clutch when pulling away, I owe you lot my life! I certainly owe you all for my now intense and, I'm sure permanent, love of motorbikes! So This is a huuuge, huuuuuuuuge thank you to everyone on this site!
Seriously thank you.

There is not enough of this in the world. People only generally make the effort to complain and far too few bother to thank or appreciate. I'm guilty of it myself.

Great to hear and heres hoping you enjoy many years of motorbiking enjoyment!

Glad to hear that you're enjoying it now. Thumbs Up

Be sure to rat out that useless CBT instructor. If you don't, who will?

I wouldn't say he was useless, he was a great friendly guy and I felt safe with him and he did teach me a lot. Plus he literally squeezed me in the morning after the afternoon I asked to book my CBT, otherwise I still wouldn't have been able to be on the road today.
It was a combo of me not speaking up due to nerves and fear of looking a plonka (I understand that I'm a plonka for not asking) and really not wanting to have to tell my uncle (My role model and a utter bike maniac!) that I'd have to come back for another session since he paid for my CBT so I could afford my gorgeous bike (pics will be posted, so proud of her), and that, due to playing on my uncles bikes for years in his driveway, I am very confident in first gear and clutch control when it comes to tight manoeuvres, I must have looked like I knew what I was doing in the yard...
tl:dr again; Whilst he maybe should have asked about my abilities/experience on road with higher gears before we went out, I was more reckless and way more to blame for not speaking up.

I would also like to thank BCF for expanding my ability to tolerate gruesome images, bestiality, gay porn, and other horrible stomach churning stuff.

I am now safe in the knowledge that If I saw a guy mutilated on the floor with a woman straddling him eating her own excrement, while stepping on kittens I will just LOL and carry on my way. Confused Thumbs Up

Just wanted to say that I totally agree with the OP. This site holds a wealth of knowledge, especially for those of us who are starting out. I too had a pretty poor CBT instructor and was far from safe to be let loose on the road but, when he gives you your certificate and rides off leaving you in the middle of nowhere, on your own with a bike you're not safe to ride on, there's not a lot you can do but ride home shitting yourself.

This site has taught me so many things that most bikers would now take for granted, even simple things like how to ride when it's really windy. Now I know the trick, it's so easy and not a problem but, the first time it happened to me I was getting blown everywhere and had to turn back before I was killed.

So basically, I too would like to say a big thank you to all you guys on here for sharing your knowledge and experience with those of us who are starting out. Thumbs Up
