just got my first bike, gs125 and i stopped it working on the first day i had it by changing gear with no clutch (on the stand) and left the choke on for a while which stopped the engine working, it hasnt worked since, wont start up, sounds like its trying but wont catch on and start properly.. a family friend is a bike mechanic so hes coming over saturday to fix it/find out whats wrong..still annoying, i cant use it anyway due to having no licence yet, sent off for it friday so it wont come through for a few weeks Sad

i have my bike out in the garden now just waiting to be repaired and ridden, damnit..

Sounds like you flooded it, leave it for a while and try again, might just start... if not your going to want to drain the carbs etc.

yeah its been 2 days and still wont start so..i have no idea how to drain carbs and this may sound lazy but i dont trust myself with it, and im looking foward to finally having a bike way to much to jeapordise it working with my own crappy mechanic skills, besides the mechanic coming over is for free anyway, as hes a family friend!

Did you remember to turn the fuel back on?

I know in one post you said that you had turned it off...

When I got my sr125 the same sort of thing happened, all that needed doing was a replacement spark plug and air filter.

I'd try starting it for a bit with the fuel off. If it is flooded it might clear out the carbs.
Once you've tried for a fair bit, try starting with the fuel on (and maybe some choke).

It's hard to describe, but you should be able to hear a difference in sound depending on if it's getting fuel, flooded or is being starved.

You havent annoyed anyone at all conure,

just think carefully about how you post, and look at how other people post, and then work out the differences.

We are happy to answer your questions!

We could easily have flamed you for not knowing the answers to some of the things you have asked, but we didn't.

Take that as a good sign! Thumbs Up

I know this may sounds silly, but I had a similar episode with my NSR when I first got it.....

It ran out of petrol so I had to pull over and switch it to reserve (not skilled enough to do it on the move at the time). Anyways I couldn't get it started for sh1t after that.

Got my next door neighbour to pick me and broken bike (with only 50 miles on the clock) and took us home.

Had the spark plug out over the camping stove to dry it out, still wouldn't start. All the toys came out of the pram at this point as I thought I'd broken my shiny new NSR.

What had actually happened was that I'd managed to knock the engine cut off switch, as soon as I put it back it started first time!

...anyways, it's just an idea!
(And yes I did and still do feel stoopid)

Concure mate.....I had a GZ125 that was a bitch to start and no matter what I did it didn't make a difference. What you have to do is drain the carb, turn the fuel tap off, there is a little screw on the carb, undo that and it will drain the petrol out of it. Turn the tap back on and fuel will come through again. As soon as the bubbles have gone, screw in the screw. It will start first time then.

From the M&P catalogue (from about 2 years ago), a plug is £3 and an air filter is £4.50.

All the besy
