My NSR seems to have been misbehaving of late. Trouble cold starting/warming up means that with the choke out, the engine either stalls as the bike gets warmer, or soaks the plug in oil/petrol. With the choke in, the bike won't start at all (unless it's been warmed up by a ride beforehand). I was advised to replace the BR9 plug with a B10, as I originally ran the bike at high revs.
My riding has changed so that I now keep the bike around 7000, rising to 10/11 occasionally.
I've replaced the air filter with a cleaner (although not new) unit and am looking at replacing the plug, however a few days ago after struggling to get the bike to start, I ran the engine (in neutral), and the smoke coming out back was unbelievable - huge clouds of thick white smoke.
So I'm worried if i've buggered up something else . ____________________ https://www.bikepics.com/members/nsrandy/96rs250/ My Bike!

Hi
As Robby says, white "smoke" is often steam from water getting in to the engine. Can be head gasket, but there are other fairly major failures that can have the same effect of different bikes.
If you are doing mainly low speed riding then go back to using a 9 plug. The 10 is a colder plug to bring the combustion temperature down a touch. Run at low speed is will be less able to clean off the build up of carbon.
To be honest I would not rely on a 2 stroke plug lasting more than 1000~2000 miles.
All the best

I'd go back to the old number plug (9) rather than a 10.
Don't forget the weather is getting warmer and as such you may find you only need half the choke it needed when it was winter to get the bike started. ____________________ The BCF's very own Party boy! Though he's getting old and feeling it!

I would replace the plug in it dude. Sounds a little like what mine used to do and that was due to a problem with the plug. Try changing it (as it is a good first port of call) and see if that fixes the problem. If not then... um.. Not quite sure what then!
Lets hope that helps or solves the problem
All the best dude!

It's done just over 8000 miles.
I didn't get an opportunity to smell the smoke . ____________________ https://www.bikepics.com/members/nsrandy/96rs250/ My Bike!
