Would you buy a cat D bike?

I have HPI'd all my bikes except the last one (Storm). I didn't because it was the least amount of money I've spent on a bike and I got flippant.

Turns out it is cat D and I lost a sale to it (he advised me of the accident in 2010 - he did a carcheck). If I'd have known this before I bought it, it would have put me off too.

As it goes I have sold the bike with no issues and for the money I was hoping for.

Just wondering what yours views are... Does it reduce the value by 25%? Does it effect th einsurance.. Swinton never said a thing to me.

cat D is usually cosmetic damage only. A couple of cracked panels will be enough to write it off. It wouldn't bother me.

Same.

No doubt my bike would have been a write-off if the insurance companies had looked at it. As it stands, I've fixed it myself and it just looks like its been down the road now (pic in sig is out of date).

The way I see it, I'm keeping the bike for the next 2 years. If there are any issues in that time I'll notice them and if it's unsafe to ride, I'll notice. I wouldn't sell it if I thought it was unsafe.

Friggin' ell EverReady, where on earth did you pop up from? Haven't seen you post in a long, long time.

Re: Written off bikes, YES. Cat C & D, no problem. My last bike (SP1) was a CAT C and there wasn't an issue with it. Nor with the SV650, SV650S, GSXR-1000, GSXR-600 and XJ600 I've owned to name but a few.

I would; but I'd be expecting to pay less (which I always like) on the basis that I won't get as much when I sell it.

A hell of a lot of bikes will have been damaged enough to be 'Cat D', but never shown up because the owner repaired it without claiming.

My old SV was a CAT C write off once upon a time. It was fully repaired when I bought it and other than the paperwork saying 'CAT C' there's no other evidence.
Its up for sale ATM, but I'm not putting up much cheaper just on the basis is was a cat C, because like I say, there's absolutely nothing wrong with it any more, and CAT C is just heavy cosmetics, and nearly all the panels were replaced by me for better ones.

So long as the bike was genuinely fine, I'd have no worries buying a CAT D

I was very surprised how different the approach is for motorbikes. Most Car owners really fear a CAT C/D, but when it comes to Motorbikes to doesn't seem to matter as much.
That's what I've found in my EXTREMELY brief riding career Laughing

But anyway
Don't mind, currently riding a 6 month old Cat D YBR.
No problemo

I'd buy cat C or D without caring too much. But then again they all end up Cat C or D with me anyway.

I had a friend with an 08 hornet in white, snapped indicator stalk (light still worked) and a 1 inch scuff on the zorst was a cat d. Laughing

The insurance companies seem to write them off as D pretty readily then.
