Being a bit thick (Oil Level)

Prolly a simples one for you. I don't currently have a sight glass on my YBR, so this is new to me. My GPZ has an oil level sight glass like this:

I'd assume I'm supposed to see oil in here - and my guess is I'm empty. Is it really obvious and am I being a thicko?

You need to have the bike up right when cheking the oil levels. Its no good if its on the side stand.

It was. I'd run the engine for a few minutes, popped on centre stand. I'm just checking the bike over to make sure it's all good.

If the engine's been running then let it settle for a few minutes after stopping it before checking the level.

These things are a PITA.
Some machines need the bike uprite both tyres on the ground.
Some bike on centre stand.
But mostly all leves will be COLD OIL engine stopped.
So before stating or about ten minites after stopping.
If just a check to see if enough for a hoon then if oil in glass it's good to go.

If up for a jaunt to the continent or whateva then do a static check.

For a wet sump engine typically it is measured on the centre stand with the engine cold.

Top your motor up a quarter of a litre at a time, wait a minute between fills and recheck the level.
