Hi all,

I just took out a policy with bikesure after they came out cheapest on bikeinsurer for me. They've sent me the usual stuff and want me to send back photocopy of my licence, proof of NCB and a questionnaire.

I have no problem with the first two but the questionnaire is just asking when is your house insurance due, cars not insured with us etc. The letter that comes with it makes it clear I have to fill it out and return it otherwise they can cancel. I'm reluctant to do so and am on the verge of just cancelling the policy as I don't like dodgy practices like this.

Has anyone had insurance with them and not sent back the questionnaire?

Cheers.

The questionnaire should be optional, I was never asked to do one, but yes sending ur licence in is and I would imagine that's what they're referring too as compulsory, give them a call they're quite helpful over the phone. Is it really a big deal if they know about ur other insurance?! Wouldn't bother me after all they might be able to save you a few pounds, if not u can just say know. It's just modern marketing being put into practice, no biggie.

The questionnaire / forum that enquires about other insurance and contact details, is not a policy requirement and as a result cover will not be cancelled if this form is not returned.

I filled in my details, but didn't answer the questions and sent it through as normal. They didn't cancel or ask for more info.

IIRC it was just renewal date stuff, so not mind blowingly important but I had felt the need to rebel.

Perhaps you should reword the letter into a less threatening form then?

My first thoughts on reading the letter (which DOES intimate that it is essential) was what a bunch of arseholes.

I'm sorry you feel that way.

Don't be, do consider changing the wording though because nothing grates on people more than being threatened into participating in market research.

Didn't realise BikeSure were on here, that's a nice surprise. Thanks for the response and clearing that up. I haven't got the letter with me but it definitely implied the questionnaire was required. Having a box at the bottom to sign it is unneccessary as well IMHO.

I realise some people might see this as picky but I value my privacy and don't want to be marketed to every minute of the day. Sorry if the rubs some people up but there you go it take all sorts.

I appreciate the prompt answer on here though, thanks again.

It's not really "market research" - but cold calling/spamming.

A relatively 'respectable' company I previously worked for had a policy that if you signed up for a demo, you were signed up to the newsletter. No tick box, just a "you can unsubscribe". Me, I didn't like it at all as to me that makes a company look disreputable - I'm quite likely not to bother, or will at least use a mailinator or similar email. My boss (who was a techy rather than sales/marketing type) wasn't having any of it though, so it stayed.

I have referred your concerns on to the appropriate manager.

@BikeSure

Minor website feedback......I added a named driver when filling out the forms on bikeinsurer but the details didn't make it across when it transfered me to your website. I think only the date of birth showed (partially).

The phone rep confirmed you had the data on the quote so probably just a rendering issue, could be worth fixing so people don't have to call to confirm though.

Cheers.

Sounds like an issue with the transfer between thebikeinsurer and us. I will refer this to the IT Department to investigate.

Cheers,

Well done Bikesure for coming on here and addressing concerns. Let's hope further action is now taken by the suits in back offices.

Am I the only one who finds these companies that come on here to resolve things creepy as fuck?

It's pretty cool if they're actually forwarding on these problems or whatever, and answering people's questions, but it feels like more invasive marketing

I'd be surprised if we ever get an answer out of it that's not uninformed, ambiguous, mealy mouthed or plain deceptive.

It's a paid astroturfer. It's not interested in helping, just in presenting its employer in the most favourable light.

Don't take my word for it, have a read through its previous posts. BikeSure can do no wrong, and nothing ever gets resolved, it's just "PM me" or "I'll pass that on"; in other words "STFU".

It even huffily claimed - and stuck to the claim - that they quote exactly the same for renewals and new business, which really tells you all you need to know about its credibility. Laughing

I wouldn't expect anything else - but I'd say in this case their presence was useful regardless and better than say MCE (yes, they do seem to be the worst of the bunch to be fair) who were purely trying to spam rather than be in any way useful.

Ha, MCE have reared their ugly heads?
What did they say?

Everyone seems to hate them, luckily not had an issue yet Cool

They just tried to spam their 'big ed' blog.
I believe now all comments on the said blog require moderation - you've got BCF to thank for that - I believe nob cat may have paid a visit.

You're assuming that the answer given was accurate. OK, I'd actually already assumed that the questionnaire was most likely optional, but having now been assured of that by our friendly neighbourhood astroturfer, I'd then be more inclined to actually read the small print. Wink

Honestly, do check. My recent experience with Aviva is that if you get the wrong sort of monkey handling your case then they will get snippy about the T&Cs where you agreed to answer all ze kvestions.

Now that it's printed on here, unless they tried to deny this was them, I think he'd have a very good case if they did try and cancel his insurance, etc.

Then comes the question of what stops me from making an account under an insurers name and talking out my arse?

Other than the mighty hammer of Thor ban.

Indeed, if I were minded to trash a competitor, I'd go about it in pretty much that way: terse, dismissive, stuffy, snippy inhuman responses.

This is the internet.

Thankfully, generally the people that try and do that sort of thing are usually silly enough to get caught out easily enough.

I had one too that thought it implied it was compulsory.

So it got filled in with bollocks.

Thumbs Up
