Through the post today I did get a wee prezzie from Carol Nash...two holographic anti-theft stickers, two barcode stickers and a pot of nano-tag paint with which to invisibly mark my bike (like Smartwater).

FREE! Bounce!

Hetzer's account has been hacked. He would never be gullible enough to believe he would get anything free from an insurance company. Carol Nash will have every penny of that back with interest that would make a loan shark blush.

Protip..

It's not invisible, It's kind of like slightly purple clear PVA. Careful where you put it.

On the plus side, you can put it on ALL your stuff, not just your motorbike. It proves an item is yours. I've done all my bikes, bicycles, power tools, garden tools and electronic stuff with it. In short, anything someone might nick.

Make sure you have proof of putting it on, otherwise it may invalidate your policy in the event of a claim. Wink

There's nothing in the pack saying application is mandatory, and nothing was said during the quotation process, so they can go whistle dixie. Especially as in the list of places to apply the paint it includes "inside the wheel axle". Laughing

I will be using it however, just not as thoroughly as they suggest.

I got mine this week too. Was rather disturbed by some of the 20 locations they recommend. It's a serious job to apply it to all sites especially since it's a dual bike policy!

Realistically though, how useful is this DNA stuff going to be? If any of my bikes ever get nicked 8 months down the line is someone going to turn up with my long lost wing mirror, or a front wheel? Leaving me to forever ponder what happened to the rest of it?

I think it's more that it allows the police to prove that a part in the posession of a dodgy character is in fact stolen and from whom which helps them build a case. I can't see it being all that useful in getting the actual bike back.

Hopefully acts as a deterrant to steraling it in the first place but I think they are crediting bike theives with too much forethought in that respect.

I too received such a kit for IDying my KTM enduro.

But I have ID'd every plastic item on the bike using a soldering iron and number and letter stamps so as to identify metal parts with the registration number of the bike.

Should the bike be stolen it should be easier for plod to identify any of these parts.
