Since I've had my bike stolen, I urgently need to get a bike, as I need to have transport. I'd like to keep it under 4000, but I can stretch for the right bike.

I've found a couple I'm interested in, can anyone give any advice towards these?

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201221472765069 - By far the one I want the most, but slightly put off by the miles it's done?

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201223475068797 It's slightly over budget but I feel it's a bit more of a sensible choice?

Will be used for every day transport, and touring, will be putting a lot of miles on it, heavily used.

How boring do you want to go?

You would easily pick up a Triumph Sprint for that much. Far more capable and far less dull.

Main concerns are reliability and MPG, and I've always had a thing for the BMW's.

Those miles are nothing for the first one. Itl go on forever if you treat it right!

That's what I've read too, plus the spec looks pretty impressive, luggage a huge bonus etc... It seems ideal from my novice eyes.

That mileage is nothing. My ninja has just hit 43,000 and is going fine. Plus they're built for it, so I'd expect it to eat the same number up again with little trouble at all.

Just had my brand new Honda stolen, and I must say I loved the little thing, great service from Honda, Hondacare is a plus, dealership were very helpful, and utterly insane MPG.

Best equivalent Honda to the 650 BMW line, Transalp?

I do not have any experience with enduro bikes, but I've got experiences with honda and these machines are very reliable + parts are every where. Now I've got '91 CB1 NC27 and the only things I have to do is oil check and lube the chain once in a while. Previous owner claims that it doesn't eat oil, but I used to have a GPz550 so I'm careful about oil consuption. Laughing Cool

BMW is quite expensive, but I think that Germans know how to make a bike Thumbs Up Smile

Those F650's aren't as well built as you might expect...

They are reliable, but show them a winter or two without liberal coatings of ACF50/FS356/similar and they will corrode a fair bit.

In fairness no worse than any other bike though.

I wouldn't touch the g650, too many concerns over reliability for my liking.
I had an F650 for a couple of years. As reliable comfortable transport it was ok, i took mine off road a fair bit and that was fun.
It averaged 75mpg, was quite cheap to service but BMW parts prices for non service items can be quite expensive.

Overall a good solid dependable bike but not fast or exciting.

The F(and now G)650 range hasn't changed massively.

If you don't plan to take it off-road, I'd go with a more road biased bike personally - at least a twin.

I'm not sure, but the engine is not made by BMW, they buy these engines from Rotax, I mean 650's and 800's cc.

As near as I can piece together, the first of the new G650GSen had engines made by Loncin but they went back to Teutonic lumps for the 35kW EU engined models.
