I'm looking at getting a geared 50 tonight that has done 7000 miles, but the seller has just told me that it has had a 'new cylinder head and you will have to take it slow to let it run it'. Is this normal/true?

Need help asap, many thanks!

Shouldnt need a new head if its gotta be run in :/

Alarm bells are ringing... A bike should never need a new cylinder head, even a two stroke. I could understand if it needed a new piston and rings, or a rebore, or a new barrel, but a new head? Especially on its own? Sounds like the engine pretty much lunched its top end and the seller just sourced a secondhand head, put a new piston and rings in and put it up for sale. Either that or he has no clue what he's on about. Either way that would worry me.

The ad says this

'The bike has just had a brand new top end i.e. cylinder, piston and rings as the pervious rings were slightly worn so better to be safe than sorry.'

So what do you reckon?

That is quite different from having a new head. That sounds fine. It will need to be run in though.
