So... I failed my module 2 test on monday... 1 serious (not cancelling indicator) and 3 minors. I decided to go down the DAS route after I spent a day on a 125cc and then half hour at the end of the day on a 500cc (then there was no going back). I have no previous biking experience and currently don't have a bike. The problem is, its 4 weeks until I can take the test again. I would prefer not to fail it again! I have been recommended just 1hr of training before my test however I will not have been on a bike for 4weeks at that point. Is this ok or should I find some money for some more training? (if so how much?)

Come on. You don't need training in how to cancel an indicator.

Just get it done, mate.

This Tuesday, it had been more than 18 months since I'd sat on a bike.

I sat on a 125, pulled away without stalling. My roadcraft was initially a little off and I forgot to cancel indicators.

After about 30 minutes I felt I was back to the same level as before.

It's like riding a bike. 4 weeks isn't a whole lot.

I would definitely keep an eye out for cancellations though. You could always book it yourself if you see one online and then ask the riding school if that date is okay. If not, cancel it. Repeat until a decent slot is found.

4weeks feels like a heck of a long time to me! (i just want to get out on the roads asap now, this process has taken wayyy longer than I had hoped!)

I have been looking for cancellations and will continue to, but I think it is unlikely... another option would be to commute 2hrs to another location to take a sooner test? but then I would know the area even less.

You didn't fail on "not knowing the area", you forgot to cancel your indicators.

How much time you need on the bike is entirely up to you, nobody else can tell you that. If you think you need more time, then book more time. I don't know what other answer you expect.

Good luck with it though - a lot of it does come down to that, particularly with the traffic that you encounter.

Smile Hi bud, 4 weeks is nothing, just relax and chill out, not canceling indicators plus 3 minors is quite easy to rectify, this may sound daft BUT IT DOES WORK, if no motorcycle then go out on a push bike, attach a bit of tape or something to the handle bar for a pretend indicator, and practise canceling, say to yourself " indicator on, indicator off " double click the cancel EVERY time to make sure of your cancel, ok it's only pretend but it will get you used to things, you didn't mention what your 3 minors were for, you maybe could practice them as well, on the other hand if you have a mate with a motorcycle thats willing to help all the better. good luck and all the best Thumbs Up

one for pulling off in the first few mins of the test and 2 for being too close to parked cars at the end Rolling Eyes

It's hard to be patient and wait for weeks to get another opportunity to get on a bike Sad

I press my indicator at random intervals whenever I'm not planning to turn, that might help. I can't see the button wearing out any time soon.

Pulling off? You mean without shoulder checks or something?

Distance to parked cars catches me out all the time at the moment on my DAS, but you'll get it in the end. As for the indicators try saying OSM/PSL as you approach and exit the junction, just saying it out loud really helped me with my obs (more than I thought it would).

Oh and keep checking the DSA site for dates, I got lucky with mine Thumbs Up

You could always book the test yourself and get a mate to pillion you down to the test centre / or meet you there with your bike (for a pint / case of beer etc), I think its 10 days between resits.

If you only failed on not cancelling indicators, you don't need further training - just get into the habit of pressing that button!

If you lived in Gloucestershire area i'd help - you could try looking in the local area forums - most are really friendly and someone maybe free to help you.
