Went for a CBT test at black country motorcycle training today. They turned me away because the car license that ive had for 28 years wasnt up to scratch. I didnt have the photo I.D. card that goes with the paper part. Ive never had one. When i booked the test. I made it clear that i only had the paper license. They said it would be ok if i took a current passport with me. So i did. When i got there they said the opposite. Total waste of a day and i booked the day off work aswell. Just been online to renew my license at a cost of £20.Takes 2 weeks. Mad

Go back and complain loudly in front of some prospective students. If your passport was in date and your paper licence was in order then that is good enough.

Thats what i thought. I have the old pink paper full driving license.Passed my test in 1984. Ive never had any endorsements so never had the need to have my license changed. I know its just another government stealth tax to charge you for updating a perfectly good license. Its been ok for all these years of driving.
They said i could do the cbt on a 50cc but i believe i am already entitled to drive a moped without a cbt. Not too sure about this though. Just annoyed that they messed me about. They said to come back when i get a new updated license. Dont think so. I'll be going somewhere else.

Who was it that specifically turned you down? The owner (who was oft found in the office) was always a fairly sound chap when I trained there.

It was the blonde woman at the reception. When i phoned to book the appointment 2 weeks ago. I spoke to a gentleman but didnt get his name. He said to bring both parts of my license with me. I asked what other part he was talking about, as i only had a paper license. He said it was ok as long as i had a current passport. When i got there today, they denied all knowledge and said they didn't know who told me that. What a shambles.

THey are wrong.

The 'old' paper licence is perfectly legal.

Have a moan here cbt@dsa.gsi.gov.uk

I think its the fault of the daft bint that i spoke to today. Probably never seen the older license before. She also told me that i could be done by the Police for not having a photo I.D. card license thingy. Thats why i paid the £20 today to get a new updated one. Now i find out that i didn't need to pay it. Feel like re-booking with them and deducting the £20 from their fee.

Absolute crxp.

I did my cbt/ theory test and my bike test all with a paper driving license. At no point did I need to provide my passport or any form of photo id.

When I passed my bike test, I sent my passport in alongside my pass certificate and old driving license, this way I didn't need a counter signature for my new photo license.

Google DSA complaint and go to the dft.gov.uk site that brings up and do a complaint to DSA about this school. Sounds like they do not know about the law so how can they be competent?

Go elsewhere man, training costs enough as it is without a school being tw@ts about it! When I did my Mod 1 training I pulled in on my bike and put my foot down as I turned and the guy started calling me a dickhead and went on about how I'd never pass (this was BEFORE my training had started).

Unfortunately I'd already paid, but safe to say I didn't go back for Mod 2!

But yeah let them know how you feel and go somewhere else!

I will lodge a complaint. I havent ridden on a bike for nearly 30 years. I used to have a Lambretta that i rode on a provisional. Then i passed my car test. I got into the idea of having a bike again after my son got a 125cc Adrenalin bike. Ive bought a Yamaha DT125RE 57 plate with only 2000 miles on the clock. Always loved 2 strokes.
Seems strange that i used to be able to ride bikes when i was 17and after 30 years of driving i now have to pass a test.

I would've smacked him in the head for that.

A CBT is a CBT, you should have done it on the ped as you still get the 125 entitlement.

I am beginning to suspect that they had either overbooked students in or didn't have enough training staff available. Ive been given some BS today and they want me to re-book. Not likely.

+1

Sounds like a school I went to.

Done my CBT with a school. The bloke who done my CBT was great. Managed to gain my certificate but still lacked confidence. So it was agreed I would do another 2 hours on a 125 before moving up.
Unfortunately the instructor was a different bloke. What followed was 2 hours of being berated. If I made a mistake I would hear about it for the next 10 mins. In the last 20 minutes I couldn't wait for the lesson to end, I hated it. It was only for the fact I had stuff back at the school that I didn't stop the lesson and just walk off.

Suffice to say I found a different school which was much better Thumbs Up

In fairness (and given that this site ranks quite high in Google searches) I feel the need to point out that I know a couple of people who've used BCMT and had nothing but good things to say about their experience. Obviously not this time though LaughingThumbs Up

You may be surprised at how quickly you get it back mate to be honest. DVLA said 2 weeks to add a provisional entitlement to my licence.... Got it back in 3 days Shocked

First things first.
1) Never (EVER) accept Blonde-ness as Knowing-ness.
They are almost incapable of lying but they do not know the truth about stuff.

2) You are owed an applogy and a new date to train. FOC.
(Push it for a Blow-Job off the Dudett who turned you away too.)

3) Why have you been phaphing around in a cage for twenty years and not applied for a 'Ticket to Ride' before now? Laughing

I thought with those older licences, you already have an entitlement to ride 50cc without a CBT. anything larger you need one though
