Recently got my bike back from a service and checked the psi on both tires (cold). Both were 1.5 over the recommended reading and I was just wondering is this acceptable?

There's a considerable amount of leeway with tyre pressures. What's in the manual is simply a safe guideline.

I think it's good that we're getting more Americans using this site. In the UK it's a tyre Very Happy

Language is fun. Please don't think someone is gay if they say they're going to have a fag.

On topic the tyre pressures generally have a range of acceptable values. As said not all gauges read correct. IIRC the small metal pen type ones always get good reviews over the digital and garage forecourt varieties.

Although you are correct to monitor the pressure as it does have a greater impact on the handling of a bike than it does for a car. I have known people want to spend money on new suspension or sorting their forks when all it was was wrong tyre pressure.

Also IIRC some of the tyre/tire manufacturers publish pressure figures for their products (google is your friend). These may be different from those in a bike owners manual.

HTH Thumbs Up
