Question. Am i right in saying that these simple rubber seals are fine as patent parts compared to the OEM's?
There's a full set on ebay now for about £50.

As i will be taking them apart, cleaning and replacing everything, do you guys have any tips for doing the job, some personal experiences perhaps.

Cheers Thumbs Up

I used a pair of hooked tweezers for getting up into the hidden part of the seal-grooves, and had to be quite aggressive to remove all the oxidised material in there. That stuff doesn't come off with q-tips and liquid solutions, or at least not with anything I had to hand.

I bought a set of cheap seals for my 6 pot tokico calipers from ebay, last year or so. They were not of the same quality as the OEM tokico ones and within a week one caliper was leaking to the extent that my front brakes failed whilst riding.
I stumped up the cost of some OEM ones from Taquip (ebay seller that specializes in tokico calipers and seals) and re-done the calipers, no issues since..

There is a thread about it somewhere on here, I think..

Not saying that you shouldn't, just that I did and it didn't work out.

Dremel with a brass wire brush on it is great to get in the seal grooves. As above the nikkone pattern seals i used on mine failed within a week. Genuine ones worked fine.
Remember to replace the seal between the 2 halves with a new one, and red rubber grease is your friend.

Another vote for OEM as opposed to cheaper ebay type ones. I took a small clock makers screw driver to work, heated it up and bent the end slightly - made a good device for seal slot cleaning.

I'm using Nikko seals and they felt no different to the ones that came out of the calipers, and so far are working fine.

I remove the calipers from the bike, remove the pistons, seals and all bolts (i.e. split the caliper). I then take them inside and use washing up liquid with a stiff brush to clean them, scrape the grooves out with a bit of hard plastic (i.e. a snapped coat hanger) and scrub the whole thing inside and out.

Rinse well inside and out, and all the channels with clean water to remove the soap then stick them in the oven on low heat to dry them out. IME it is quicker and more effective than trying to clean them in the garage using solvents.

Seals are always majorly overpriced but that seems a little steep. Have you asked for a quote from elsewhere?

What calipers do you have?

I think these are what you need?!
