 |
|
So, my Fazer was running perfectly yesterday, no issues at all. Got home, parked up, all fine. Over the rest of the afternoon and the evening, we had a couple of intense but short bursts of rain.
This morning I started it up, it starts Ok but is idling a little rough. I put this down to the engine being cold. Further down the street when I stop for traffic lights it's still doing it, and when I eventually arrive at work (should be more than long enough to warm it up) it's still doing it.
The bike seems to run fine as soon as a little throttle or choke is applied - smooth as ever and no apparent loss in power. However on idle, it feels a little like it's missing a beat, if that makes sense. The RPM is very unsteady, wobbling between 1.5k (which is where it's supposed to be) and 1k,
First thought is obviously that water may've got in somewhere it shouldn't, but I was wondering whether the specific symptoms pointed to anything in particular that the gurus of BCF might be able to suggest. ____________________ - CBT: 02/01/11 Theory: 26/04/11 Mod 1: 19/05/11 Mod 2: 19/08/11

Well it seemed to be running better by the time I got home, no more missing, at least. However unfortunately it's pissing it down AGAIN and as I have no garage to work in, there's no point getting the HT leads out and so on, as I'm more likely to put extra moisture in than get any out. So I settled for putting it under a cover tonight and hoping for the best.
If one was doing the same when the caps needed replacing, that suggests further that that's where the problem is, so I'll try giving them a squirt as soon as it's dry enough to be worth-while. ____________________ - CBT: 02/01/11 Theory: 26/04/11 Mod 1: 19/05/11 Mod 2: 19/08/11

hose the leads with wd before you put the cover on.
When you get a chance unscrew the caps from the leads, check for blue rotten copper, if they are rotted cut the lead back a little until you reach fresh copper. also check the insulation for splits.
when refitting the cap, smear some grease over the spike and fill the recess with grease, helps keep the rot at bay and water out. ____________________ Some shite cruiser. Now with guns and FREEDOM! |
