Was doing a bit of this n that at my local bike shop circa 1994, mines the standard turbo, the other was the bosses .

The full time mechanic showed me a little trick on turbos, he got a screw driver and bent the piece of metal that the wastegate spring attaches to, thus increasing the tension on the spring meaning the wastegate will open later, presto higher boost Smile .

Careful though Martin (the boss) went over the top with his and blew the bottom end,

Anyhow we was invited to a run to the bulldog bash by a customer and turned up at the meeting point to sniggers , Martins bike was smoking a tad Very Happy

Now we did not know these lads but they looked the part knee sliders, full race leathers , £400 helmets etc. , all riding blades zxrs etc.

We had on greasy jeans and chipped helmets, and looked a bit worse for wear(on the piss the night before).

Anyhow off we go along some twisty roads on the welsh border, now these boys were getting their knees down all right, but could have gone round the same twistys 20-30mph faster, so we went past them in a cloud of smoke and pushed on, now we were both considered fookin quick therabouts ( well nutter/idiot was used quite often for myself) but we rode loads of bikes all year round in all weather, so we soon left them behind, but we waited every 10 miles or so til we got to the bulldog. where they completely ignored us for the rest of the day, in fact I never did see them again.

Now we might have been a bit smug every time we waited for them, but bloody hell , they all had quicker/more capable bikes on paper, Martins turbo was playing up and lastly I had Joe a mate on pillion, they should of left us for dead not vice versa.

In hindsight I guess it was the start of the born again thing, people who had no idea of how to use their machine.

Like the previous poster did not take many photos back then but heres a selection of some of my bikes

Loved this bike but the valve seats went soft so sold it on , bit of a sad story the lad who bought went everywhere at the speed limit ( the valves only went when you revved the tits off it, so did not worry about him buying it), a car driver aged 80 reversed out of a drive and clipped him , he was only doing 30mph, head hit the curb , killed instantly

My last bike got it drunkenly off ebay last year for £395 chucked a couple of hundred quid at it and was well pleased, until a stoned idiot in a car indicated left and turned right ( full story in the Feb issue of Practical Sportsbikes ,Star Letter Very Happy )
